chickenlicken85
What can I do for my chickens to ensure they dont get bored in their coop when im at work? Thanks
good_egg
You can hang fruit and veg up - we have a ball to stuff leaves in and a spike to stab stuff on (both from omlet).... Everything tends to be hoovered quite fast but sweetcorn swingball is a favourite - we suspend most stuff from the roof so there is a bit of a challenge to getting it.... Pecking blocks are good - we have had a big one made by flyte so fancy in for a week now and its bit gone down much - girls seem to like it, it has molasses and loads of bits n pieces in. Things to do like dust baths or perches (want to add these to ours).... Someone once suggested a bale of hay to nibble and hop onto etc... Sure people will have other suggestions. chickenlicken85
Unfortunately my hens dont have as much room as id like they are very happy in the garden but would be wary of leaving them out all day as there are so many cats around. Will hang some veg up and see how they get on x
Ain't Nobody Here
Any type of perch will help make things more interesting. When I had an Omlet run, I used Ikea shoe racks held together with cable ties and stuck through the holes in the run. I use BBQ skewers to hang veg up! Gertie
I was just reading Practical Poultry and they were talking about putting a clear plastic drinks bottle with pebbles in, hung up for them to peck. Also rubber balls for them to keep them amused. I've not heard of those ideas before. Mine have pecking blocks, cabbages or fruit, corn, tree stump, large block of stone to perch on. auntielizzie
I've got one of those treat balls which I fill up and put in with my girls occasionally - unfortunately it doesn't keep them occupied for very long They are very good at getting the food out once they get the hang of it
charly1979
Sweetcorn Swingball is a fave for my clan I have put a platform with a ramp that they seem to like, a couple of logs but they seem to LOVE the mini bench I bought them from the range. Of course mine take great delight in bark chipping flinging in the direction of the run door, so I have to negotiate this when opening the door
