bluekarin
Peter Capaldi I am actually quite happy about this. Wonder how close to Malcolm Tucker this new character will be Might have to have a later edition ala Hollyoaks after dark!
sadietoo
My guess was Hugh Dennis....but Peter Capaldi is a fabby choice...how great would it be to have a Malcolm Tuckeresque version after the watershed?
Daphne
Brilliant piece of casting, can't wait
alih
Am thrilled - an inspired piece of casting. I have long been a fan of both PC and Dr Who...we are all very excited to have an older doctor with a very dark side to him!
surfer_chicken
I really enjoyed Matt Smith as the Doctor but this will be a refreshing change. I'm hoping he's going to be very no-nonsense I'm also hoping he keeps his usual accent, I thought it was a shame David Tennant covered his up. Egluntyne
I think he'll be brilliant. Interesting factoid coming up - he is the same age that the original Doctor, William Hartnell was when he was originally cast in the '60s. He must use a better moisturiser. Willow
If they were determined to cast another white male he's a good choice. But what a shame the BBC are still so white male dominated Dr Who is one of my measures of equality, Top Gear another...
Eggasperated
But what a shame the BBC are still so white male dominated I am really disappointed in their choice - should have been female.
kissinuk
Peter is a great choice, surely its all about choosing the best person for the role, not choosing a different race/gender/ethiniticy just because there's hasn't been someone in the past?? It's not like Dr Who has a lack of actresses, some of the greatest characters in the show are women. As Stephen Moffat said yesterday "maybe it's time for a man to play the queen", directed tounge in cheek at Helen Mirren.
Willow
As Stephen Moffat said yesterday "maybe it's time for a man to play the queen" Frankly I thought Stephen Moffat was smarter than this. If the best he can do is draw an analogy between a female actor being chosen to play a character that is based on a real person who is also a woman and always choosing a white male to play a character that isn't even human and can take any form it wants, he must know he's on shaky ground... kissinuk
I don't understand why people are so focused on it being a "white" male. Why on earth should colour come into this if he has picked someone who he believes is the best person for the job?
