Newbie just saying hi...

Recommended Posts

Well I've not got my Chickens yet, but only a few days to go :-)

I have ordered a Purple cube with run and an extra 2 metres of run. Gone a bit mad with stuff I can get for chickens:

Extra Feeders and Stand

Egg Wash

DE

Ground Sanitiser

Poultry Shield

Gentian Violet

Anti-Pecking Spray

Coloured Leg Rings

Grit Station and Grit

Shade Cover and Wind Covers

Found a local place to me that specialise in chickens, lots of pure breeds and hybrids. They raise their birds on Garvo feed so I have purchased 20k of Layers Pellets, corn to give as a treat on the evening, also get a bag of Omlet feed free with my Eglu so will mix the two. Chickens will be in one place so have built a large deck to place the cube and run onto. Plan on covering inside the run with wood chippings.

Decided I am going to get 6 girls, probably 2 Gingernut Rangers, 1 Columbian Blacktail, 1 Blue Bell, 1 Rhode Rock and 1 Amber.

Cube is due to arrive Friday, hopefully get it all setup on Friday and then go and pick up the girls on Saturday.

Anyway, that's me... very excited for this weekend.... Woohoo

Howdy,

Thanks for the welcome.... I'm very excited, not really had any dealings with chickens before other than seeing the ones the mother in law has on her allotment, not the best of conditions (poor things) but that's her business...

Mine will no doubt be pampered and spoilt rotten just like my dog (Labrador) and cats (I'm a bit animal daft)...

Oh, another purchase I forgot to mention is the omlet fencing stuff, 21m of it so I can let them about for a bit of free ranging on an evening when I get in and on weekends...

Should be fun....

Also got my little nephew (7 years old) very excited about them, I got a phonecall from him today informing me that he is coming to stay for the weekend so he can come with me to pick up the girls and spend the weekend with them... Ha!

He also wants to name them, hmmmmm I feel some random Ben 10 or Harry Potter stuff coming here.... We'll see

........ where your eggs will be delicious, but cost more than a Faberge egg!

But they will be worth it! I am sure you will love having chickens, but beware of Morehens Disease! What fun to share your chicken keeping with your nephew.

He's over the moon about the chickens... Got him into gardening over the last couple of years, now has his own little greenhouse... My sister is panicing now in case he decides he needs some hens at home too... lol

Welcome Dan!

This chicken keeping does become addictive. I started three years ago with three warrens (two of which have just died  ) got some more at the weekend including a Blue Belle, must say she is a beautiful bird!!

Enjoy and looking forward to seeing the pictures!!

Sorry to jump in on on your post Spartacus2003, but wanted to say hi from another newbie! My purple cube and WIR are due to arrive tomorrow too! I am like you and probably won't sleep tonight either as I'm sooo excited!

I'm wanting 5 hens but everyone tells me to start with 3 so I MIGHT compromise with 4.

Good luck with everything!! :D

Hello Dan and all

I am new here too, and have my (cube green) ordered and will delivered on the 19th along with 2 POL hens GNRPP , I am very excited too. I have not gone mad with the ordering of stuff- almost did but restrained myself. Although I have asked for hen related gifts for my birthday next week. I hope to get a walk in run and a few more hens later on.
