mollyripkim
As you may know Esme the bantam orp got myco on 17th October, recovered after Tylan injections but then went into full moult followed by sour crop, then suspected mouth canker, all treated by vet. Seemed to recover but few days after stopping antibiotics she had yellow pus in her throat again and started sneezing. So found chicken vet and was convinced it was the end of the road for her but she said she was the most heathly looking ill chicken she had seen and suggested more Tylan and felt she was just low and would recover. Well tomorrow is last day of a Tylan, she is still sneezing and has yellow in her throat despite being indoors, nutridrops etc. vet did mention doing an op or washout of her crop but I can't decide whether to go down that route, both expense wise and for her sake. She has been living in my office for the last ten days, is bright and eating but I don't know what to do, she is around 3 years old. Any advice, what you would do much appreciated. Egluntyne
I'll be honest, given her age and the description of the various stages of the illness, I'd have her put to sleep if she was mine.
mollyripkim
Vets this morning and unfortunately they found a large tumour in her crop so had to let her go, feel so sad as she was still bright, chattering and eating. Finding this hard to post but know you will all understand. Lovely vet is going to look at tumour in her lunch break as she was surprised at the size as she only saw her last Wednesday but suspects this has been growing slowly for a while and has been the root of all her problems. Patricia W
I'm so sorry for you, but it's good that the vet is interested enough to do a PM on the tumour. It might help others.
libby22
Oh I am sorry, what a terrible shame. At least you are able to say that you did everything you could, best treatment and lots of love and attention and she went before the trauma of the main problem took hold. Sending you a hug. mollyripkim
Thank you both, I did really try but without letting her suffer, she had actually gained weight since the vets last week but then again that might have been the tumour. Luvachicken
So sorry to read about Esme, and such a pretty name too. It seems like you did all you could for her, and sadly, like people, the cancer wins time and again. RIP little Esme.

mollyripkim
Thank you everyone, at least the tumour explains why she kept getting things this past month. I am just glad she was perky and eating well. Sorry about your Gertie too Leanne.
