harrietrose
Hi all , we picked up our first hens yesterday after a 4 year hiatus. We have a black rock and a beautiful silkie araucana cross. The black rock is laying but the silkie hasnt started yet. I'm hoping for blue / green eggs ! Just wondering if any one else has this cross breed, what colour eggs do you get ? Also name suggestions great-fully received !
Patricia W
Welcome! I've never had a x like yours but I think it will depend on the dominant genes. I have two pure breed aracaunas and during the summer months get lovely blue/green eggs. Silkies are often late in beginning to lay so you may have to wait a while. Hope you get what you want. harrietrose
Tbh im just happy to have chickens again, it will be a nice bonus if she lays blue/green though ! I have space for 2 more hens in this size run , i'd like a maran in an interesting colour and a vorwerk to complete the set ! But mostly i'm just happy to have chickens in my garden again ! Chickabee
My first silkie didn't lay until march. My new one hasn't laid yet
Redwing
I think I am right in saying that if the Araucana was the father then eggs should be green/blue. If the Silkie was the father then the eggs will be creamy/pale brown
sjp
I think I am right in saying that if the Araucana was the father then eggs should be green/blue. If the Silkie was the father then the eggs will be creamy/pale brown it can work if the father is a non blue egg layer I've got 3 TNN x CLBs dad is the TNN that lay green eggs 2 first gen and 1 2nd gen crosses also got 3 or 4 that lay cream - light brown eggs at least 1 is a first gen cross I'm still waiting on a 2nd gen pol to start to lay
