Feeling anxious....

Recommended Posts

 Sorry Spacechick that was unfair of me.My dentist is also a very nice man.I should have said I hate all dental goings on especially when it's my mouth they're going on in.Have had some bad experiences with teeth breaking during extraction, root canal work, dry socket etc.Though I would never miss my 3 month checks in the hope it prevents something major taking hold.

I know grandma

I just think people's fear of the institution makes people forget there is a nice person behind it :P

I've never minded going to the dentist.... When I was a child my dentist was my Dads friend from school, he used to give me lollies and stickers (lollies may not have been the best idea  ) so I had good experiences from when I was a child :D

Those who know me quite well will know I am quite happy at the dentists after having root canal treatment without an injection. I have a new dentist now and she said well you didn't have a root there so it wouldn't have hurt anyway. I told her I had bad toothache after not going to the dentist in 8 years (my previous one had been the most horrible man ever and I refused to go back to him). My mum had found a new dentist that she thought was nice and indeed he was. He removed the old filling and the yuk that was there and refilled it. But it was still giving me problems which he thought might happen as it was such a deep repair and root canal had already been discussed. He asked if I would like an injection and I asked if it would be necessary. He didn't think so to but let him know if it hurt me - it is just the vibrations and the sensitivity to cold or heat. He kept asking as he was drilling out the filling if I was OK and I confirmed yup. Then I asked if I should have one when he removed the nerve. He said it had already been removed and he was just about to clean the root. I didn't feel it at all - I thought it might have been so painful - yet I didn't even feel a twinge!!! Since then I've never had an injection and my teeth are all good - except for the old fillings which need replacing now and again. I actually have a jolly good laugh with all my dentists since - in fact I prefer that than going to the docs! Or the hairdressers! It does help if you feel you can trust the person who dives into your mouth! In fact the most terrified I have been in recent years was when a wasp walked up my leg and I thought it would soon sting me!:lol:

I think it has changed so much over the years. They are much more bedside nice mannered. Try and relax and you'll be fine.
