nin-chicken
Hello, just looking for a wee bit of advice please... My girls always have something in their water, whether its poultry tonic, acv, or citricidal & a clove of garlic. But am I right In thinking that during the week they have flubenvet that I shouldn't put anything in their water? I'm starting tomorrow and the poor things aren't going to know what's hit them with no treats, no free ranging AND no flavour In their water! Thank you x
Chickabee
I think it's ok to put stuff in their water. I'd probably avoid ACV, but tonics should be fine. I suppose nothing that is for the gut. Interested to see what others think as it's never really crossed my mind
miller30
I don't put anything in the water when I'm worming whatever I am treating my birds for they just have that treatment and nothing else but they do free range as this is how half live they don't have pens and they do get their handful of corn before bed leanne
gavclojak
I am by no means an expert, but I don't give my girls any supplements or treats during their worming cycle....I only let them free range for an hour before bed too....i hate worming time, their little expectant faces and the following disappointment when they don't get treats or freedom! I prefer the winter worming cycle because the days are shorter and it's less time for me to be tempted to treat them but I do mine every three months and am a tad paranoid about worms!! I do supplement their water after the worming cycle because I understand the worming is pretty tough on them but not during.
nin-chicken
Thank you both. I do mine every three months too. As you say, at least the days are shorter and with the rubbish weather they probably wouldn't be out much anyway. I still hate it though! Maybe I'll see if I can find them an extra branch or log to brighten up their week! And next week they can have poultry tonic, to give them a boost too. Thanks again x

The Dogmother
I don't see any problem in continuing with tonics etc in the water; they aren't going to stop the hens from eating the treated pellets as treats would, nor will they hinder the effect of the Flubenvet. I've always continued.
nin-chicken
Thanks dogmother, I put some poultry tonic in their water this morning. Made me feel slightly better!
