Ain't Nobody Here
Mum's TV is really playing up so I'm going to buy her a new one. I'd also like to get her something so she can record the occasional programme (she doesn't watch much but probably would watch more if we could set a series to tape for her). It doesn't seem that TVs come with PVRs included so if I got her one that was PVR ready, what external memory would I need? Is a memory stick enough or does it have to be an actual drive? She wouldn't need much memory but it needs to be easy to operate and reliable as she's pushing 90. Is it right that you can't watch another programme while the TV is recording to a memory stick/drive? I'm wondering if it would be easier for me to record things for her from our spare V+ box then take the drive round to hers! Any experience/advice would be greatly appreciated . Princess Leia
OH has been looking at these recently, although we haven't bought one as yet. Assuming she has Freeview at the moment via a normal aerial (rather than Freesat/Virgin/Sky, etc), this PVR seems to get good reviews and is probably the one we'd go for, as you'll get the HD channels as well. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Humax-HDR-2000T-Freeview-HD-Recorder/dp/B00FPLMRDC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393506322&sr=8-1&keywords=humax
Eggasperated
I got my 93 year old mum a Humax PVR to convert her old telly to digital and make it easy for her to record things. She gets on really well with it and won't let anyone else touch the controls in case they mess it up . It did have a problem about 9 months after she got it which couldn't be fixed so she was given a replacement under the guarantee. She is a great reader of instruction manuals and has taught herself how to use lots of the functions as the man from the tv shop only explained the basics. Ain't Nobody Here
That's good to know, thanks everyone . Typically, as soon as I suggested getting a new TV for mum, she's backtracked and says she's fine with the old one . Fear of change, I suspect.
