newcountrygirl
We had solar panels fitted this week. My hubby is in love with the panel which tells you if you are importing or exporting electricity. He stands for ages and as soon as a ray of sun hits the panels and the little box tells him we are exporting electricity he goes all misty eyed. He says they give him satisfaction - ooh err -!!! Alis girls
I feel your pain hun - but the other woman in my life is OH's beloved fig tree. Not sure how you compete with a solar panal. Stand on the roof naked and soak up the rays
CatieB
Phew thank goodness it's solar panels. I wasn't paying attention and read that my husband has fallen in love with someone!!!
bluekarin
Mine has spoken about getting them for so very many years now, it is my fear he will be meter watching when they finally get installed He is waiting for graphene ones, so I think I have a few years yet before I too am a solar panel widow
newcountrygirl
Haha - when i put the heading for the topic i wondered whether anyone would get the wrong idea. Bless him - he was an engineer in a past life before we moved to the country - so he always has to measure things, take readings etc. Wouldnt swap him though. Bramble
Lucky you (to have solar panels, I mean!) I'd LOVE to install them, not for any financial benefit (I don't think there is much of one), but just 'cos it feels like the right thing to do. You'll have to rig up a webcam so hubby can continue his love affair (with the panels!!!) when he's out!!!
Space Chick
The novelty of this new love wears off We've had solar panels for 3 years now, and at the start hubby was watching the generation, seeing if we were exporting etc etc. he soon got bored. Now he just checks every 3 months when we need to submit our meter reading to get out Feed in Tariff cheque
WitchHazel
We have microinverters for our solar panels, and we can see how each individual panel is performing. For the first four or five months, we were tracking every day - several times a day if it was sunny. Thenin the winter I just checked once a month to update my spreadsheet so I can track savings vs plan. Now, like Spacechick, we normally only check quarterly. I still update my spreadsheet. I do take the occasional peek, as I want to make sure each panel is performing properly - don't want to get to the end of the quarter and find there has been a problem. EDITED TO ADD: I did make a diary note to remind me of the anniversary. When we hit the anniversary, I did a check on them and emailed the lovely chap who installed them to let him know how they had performed vs his projection (the panels outperformed his projection, so I knew he'd be pleased)
