Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

I think my original Gingernut ranger is under the weather. She's 4. I can't put my finger on it, I think it's just old age. She was laying softies for ages and has stopped laying now. There's nothing obvious like strange poos or foaming eyes. She can still move around ok. Her comb has shrunk, but is still bright red. Think I'll let her FR and give her some tuna see how she goes. Bless her

Just got her out. She looks in good enough condition. She's not egg bound, just found 2 softies in the poo tray. She is heavy, no weight loss. Hopefully she's just slowing down. She wasn't excited about being let out though. She would normally run off cause she thinks I've let her out by accident

Four is a good age for a hybrid Chickabee. None of ours ever got past three. It sounds like just old age to me as well. Is her abdomen swollen because that's how all ours started to go downhill, even while they were still laying and doing normal poos.

It might be swollen, she did feel rather large. She's not eating now

It's nothing you can sort out yourself Chickabee. A trip to the vet might be in order?

She's still with us and she's eating. She perked up the next day a bit, and today she looks a lot better. She's a bit doddery and her comb is really shrunk, but I can't say she looks ready for chook heaven yet

Pamlar just PTS, thought I'd be stoic about it but I'm not. Feel guilty as didn't do it sooner. The other hens started gathering round her and giving her a little peck. . She stopped eating again and was only drinking.

Ah sorry to hear this. don't feel bad though, you gave her every chance! when the others start making her life difficult for her then something has to be done......sleep tight little one

don't feel guilty - they hide it so well when they're poorly and start to decline. You did the kindest thing for HER - dleaying would only have been for your benefit. you will certainly miss her but she had a good and relatively long life. xx

Ah sorry to hear that. I had one of my originals PTS last year. The vet was so lovely which somehow made me more upset! Just remember all the great times you had and the funny things she did.
