As the subject line says - Does anyone use a vets rectal thermometer on their hens ?

Is it really "Its quick and easy to do it with a rectal thermometer" - or more importantly, is it safe for a careful but 'non-vet' to do ??

What would you do with the information revealed by the thermometer? My opinion is that if they need a thermometer inserting where the sun doesn't shine, they need to be seen by a vet.

 

In any case, you would run the risk of perforating something inside.

No but I may use a large one on hubby if he keeps dumping his clothes on the floor

Mine too - their temperature is naturally higher than our anyway (105deg) which might start a panic in anyone who wasn't aware of that.

 

I've never needed to use one on mine.
