moochoo
My runner beans have nearly finished cropping and I left a few pods on to go to seed/ bean. I really want to save these for next year. Does anyone know the best way to save them to plant next year? I've also had a problem with woodlice eating my runner beans, is this common?? ubereglu
You're supposed to leave the pods on the plant to dry out. Then you simply open the pods once they have dried and leave them on the windowsill for the beans to completely dry out. Hope that helps! moochoo
Cheers Liz! It's not the end of the world if they don't grow next year, the plants I've got this year will still come back. I just thought it would be a waste not to try!
Christian
Once they have dried out, i keep mine in a jar with a sachet of silica gel to stop any moisture. This keeps them nice and dry and they always grow the following year.
moochoo
Great tip about the silica gel, didn't really think about them getting damp. Thanks for the help!
Christian
No problem, glad I could help! I keep all my seeds (in packets) in a box with a few sachets of silica gel. No problems as yet!
Lesley
Don't forget to label them if you need to know which variety they were? I put all sorts of seeds in envelopes and then forget to label them

moochoo
I did plant mine quite early this year. Do you remember the lovely weather during march that's when I planted mine outdoors. so maybe that's why they've finished early.
