SueChick
I wonder if people out there can advise me on which supplements I should use daily/weekly/monthly as a preventative measure to ill health? I seem to be getting lots of products and don't really know if I need all of them all of the time or if you just use them if your hens have been poorly/stressed/wormed/moulted? I have a gut conditioner that goes in the water which is meant to prevent good gut health but I also have apple cider vinegar and garlic powder too which also say they do that? Which should I use and when? I have both poultry spice and poultry drink? Some things are easy for example limestone flour if we have a softie problem but regarding the above products, I am a bit lost? Could someone let me know what they use as a preventative health measure please? What should I use after I have finished worming? Gah! Confused..... mollyripkim
Hi, I am sure everyone has a different regime but I mostly use origstim daily which I definitely think dries up their droppings. When I remember, not very scientific I know, I do a week with Apple cider vinegar. At the moment I have a young pekin and two ducks moulting so they have the pink poultry tonic in their water this week. I have the poultry spice but haven't used it I ages, think I used it when we had a really cold winter. Other than that I use cod liver oil to mix the flubernet worming into their pellets. When I first had them I was paranoid and recorded all their supplements so I didn't forget but but have considerably relaxed now and it's done them no harm. I guess really everything they need is in their pellets but I feel better if I am doing my best for them. Hope you are enjoying your girls. The Dogmother
Piece of string one really - the less you can get away with, the better... I have lots of products but then I am often given them to trial, or when a new product is in development. If you have a poultry tonic such as Life-Guard or the NetTex one, then a dab of that once or twice a week is beneficial, but use more frequently in the moulting season/winter. ACV and Orego-Stim do more or less the same thing, and I would use one or t'other rather than both. Garlic powder, or my favourite... garlic and mint, is an anti-viral and will help to deter lice and mites. I add it to the pellets when I remember, but use it mainly on the dogs to keep them flea/tick free. Folks seem to try various different thing, then settle on a couple which they prefer. Chickabee
Oh my gosh godmother, another brilliant idea. Garlic and mint. Hate using flea and mite products, such horrible chemicals. Will get some for chooks and dogs

Beantree
It doesn't have to be that complicated SueChick. We don't use any of those products. Clean water and good quality feed, with fresh fruit or veg occasionally as a treat. Worm every 6 months with Flubenvet. That's it.

SueChick
Thanks everyone for your replies. I will try using the poultry tonic just after a moult and warm and then ACV in their water all the time to keep gut healthy and garlic as well in pellets when I remember. Getting glares still at the moment as we are in worming week
