Claireabella
Hi all, with the mention of cockerels on the forum, it's got me thinking about my Daisy. She (I'll call her 'she' for now) is roughly between 23 - 27 weeks. No sign of an egg or a cock-a-doodle-doo yet. I know this is the only way to know for sure but I'd love to hear your best guesses! What do you think?
LizzieLloyd
I'm no expert but i'd say that looks like a little boy
Chortle Chook
The way the feathers go back on the head does look like a little boy, but don't be down heartened as white Silkie boys grow into such elegant chaps with fairly soft crows. Girls tend to have more of a pom pom on their heads.
Claireabella
Oh eck!! It only really dawned on me the other day when I saw the other pictures on here of girl silkies and I posted about mine having a mohican rather than the full poofy head I feel quite in shock that I might have a boy Not sure what I will do if she starts to crow! Purplemaniacs
I looked very closely at my three silkies this morning, one boy and two girls and I am afraid to say yours has a more male hairdo than a female one comparing Daisy to mine. Sorry. Daisy might end up laying you an egg, you can never be certain. Chrissie
Claireabella
I'm swaying more towards a little boy at the moment too. I've noticed other things, like the tail feathers and quite visible comb and wattles, eek!! She hates being handled too and squarks her head off! What age do they usually start to crow? I'm guessing I should know either way sometime soon I also noticed that my OH is wearing his Batman onesie that the kids bought him for xmas! daxigirl
I'm gonna say girl. If it was a boy the comb would have filled out like a marshmallow and the wattles bigger, boys are more upright in stance and have about 8 long trailer feathers coming out the back of their heads and longer tail feathers. If you have another girl to compare to, the girl legs are thinner, boys have thicker shanks. At 27 weeks you shouldn't have long to wait for an egg to know for sure.
