PixieDust
I know it's rather sad, but here am I excited about getting chickens and have never picked one up! My friend has a Light Sussex and a Bluebell and I got to pick up and stroke the Light Sussex. It was an awesome experience. She was so friendly. I showed her to my dog and he wasn't interested. I guess when they invade His garden it will be different though.
Redwing
Well done - its the start of an addiction I promise!
gavclojak
The biggest buzz for me was when my ex commercial girls trusted me enough to jump on my lap and proceed to nest down there. I was so happy......now that's sad!!!!!
mollyripkim
Congratulations, redwing is right, they are addictive. I started off with three four years ago, now have 22, how did that happen.
Olly
I can still remember the first time I held a hen (which was when my Eglu/hens were delivered) - and saying with surprise 'but she's so warm'! I don't know what I'd expected exactly, but Redwing is right - it's the start of an addiction.
Purplemaniacs
Olly and Redwing are correct it is the start of an addiction. I started with 4 hybrids, since then I have 4 more hybrids, 3 ex batts and hatched various bantams and kept 5 of them, then hatched some Orps for a friend who had a fox attack and tthen hatched some Silkies and kept all three of those! After we were burgled I nearly got rid of the chooks, couldn't face going out to sort then in the dark but Omleteers were great and gave lots of advice and even offers to look after them while I sorted myself out. So glad I kept them and sorted things out. Chooks are great Chrissie
chickanne
Glad to hear you still have the girls, Purplemaniacs. I remember you posting about the burglary and feeling sad that you might give them up. I miss chicken cuddles when I am away from home - even for a few days. Like Olly, I remember the Omlet man taking Thelma out of the box and giving her to me to hold whilst he erected the run. Not sure what I'd expected either, but it was love at first cuddle. I like to think the girls keep me sane although others call me a mad chicken-lady .........
