Lavenders_Blue
Today my beautiful Bella went to the great dust bath in the sky. She was the last of my original hens who started me out on my chicken keeping adventure. She enjoyed nearly 5 years of retirement, outlived her 3 sisters by 2/3 years, AND outlived our second lot of ex batts who arrived 2 years after her! She refused to stop laying eggs, and even as recently as a few weeks ago she layed me a few beautiful eggs. She was matriarch of the flock, in charge from the time she arrived to the time she went I kept joking that she would live forever, as she just seemed to keep going where other hens came and went. Sadly peritonitis got the better of her in the end. She will be HUGELY missed

Valkyrie
Oh the big mealworm wonderland called her. She's happy flying free. On the other hand lots of hugs for you.
redsunset
Fantastic age for most hybrids, esp an ex-batt! Makes the loss all the harder tho as those lil critters have a way of creeping under your skin that you never quite anticipate when you get them. What a lucky chook she was
mollyripkim
Really sorry to hear that, but you must be a brilliant chicken mummy to get her to such a good age. Hope you are feeling ok x

Lavenders_Blue
Thank you everyone, it's lovely to have an understanding Omlet family I am obviously very sad that I've lost my precious girl (let's face it, we all have favourites don't we?) but at the same time am so happy she made it to such a ripe old age. I'm sure she'll be flapping around in the dustbath with her sisters as we speak, or more likely, chasing them away from a juicy worm The other girls have been keeping me amused with their ridiculous antics all day, so I can't really be too sad.
