Staying in London

Recommended Posts

My twins have holidayed in quite a large number of locations and fancied a one night YHA break somewhere as they both have the same days off this week. So they're travelling to London. We live in London so that seemed odd. But they thought it would be funny to experience what other people experience. They've got quite a touristy itinerary which they planned five minutes before they left! Now I'm thinking that it is a very good idea. It's a lovely spring like day in London this morning and now I'm quite jealous. Weird because I can go to London any day I like.

But you never do what's on your doorstep, do you! I work in London and live nearby, obviously my time is limited during the day but I don't really take advantage of the things I could do - usually I just want to get out of it and back home to my chickens.

My friend did this last year, took a week off to be a 'tourist' in her own city. I spent a day with her and her OH and we went to Dr Johnson's House, and did a guided walk round the Inns of Court. I'd love to know what your twins end up doing with their time?

Ooh I and my 2 female friends from the states are planning London in June - sleeper train from Scotland and into Euston so looking for a hotel/bed and breakfast near there for a triple room for 3 nights - any ideas? I have looked and its a nightmare to see what would be suitable as mixed reviews everywhere. Trying to do it on a budget...

Blackrocksrock - the boys stayed at St.Pauls YHA which is certainly on a budget. They recommend it because it is central, does a lovely breakfast and was clean and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Don't make the mistake of thinking that they are willing to rough it because they are young men - quite the opposite. They are hotel connoisseurs, in fact we have been known to call them Niles And Frasier!!!!

Olly - they had a fun day which does seem to have involved a lot of eating. Breakfast somewhere but I forgot to ask where. Then the science, natural history and VandA museums. Then lunch at Byrons Burgers which I don't know but were apparently awesome. They bought tickets for the Sherlock Holmes exhibition at the Museum of London - also apparently awesome. While there they visited a mall in the city which is mainly underground and took an elevator up where there is a viewing platform with amazing views and a champagne bar ( Blackrocksrock.... you and mates might enjoy this)After this they went to a German Beer Hall where they had some steins of beer!!!! and currywurst.

I think after that they meandered back to the hostel with miniatures of champagne (I don't know) and watched an episode of Sherlock Holmes.

It sounds fun. Today they've gone to Harry Potter world with DD who got the day off and tonight we're all together for pizza, wine and scategories (apart from ES who is in Japan

We've always been to London a good few times a year and guess have always taken the touristy bits for granted that everyone's seen them but some of my friends have hardly been into the capital!

We stayed in London for a week in January as had three Australian friends-of-a-friend who emigrated, so we did all the proper touristy stuff.

We went to Big Ben, HoP, London Eye, M&M World, the Tate, Tower of London, Camden, Soho and I saw St Pauls for the first time ever!

We went across the Millenium Bridge at 4am (don't ask) last summer and I swear it wasn't there then :anxious:

Can't help with the hotel front as we had an apartment in Ealing but have stayed in London Central City Road Travelodge a few times for £19 a night so worth checking when they have a sale on.

'Spoons breakfast is cheap and good for veggies too! :D
