Hi, can i ask is that a box you've made them and if so, what have you put in it please? I made one with play sand in and they weren't impressed. So I chucked the sand in the run and blow me, if they didn't bath in it!

It normally takes ages for chickens to accept and use their dust bath. It took a new chicken to show mine what to do. I use wood ash in a large shallow trug. I think you just need to keep trying

That's a brilliant photo! I couldn't work out which bit was which for a second Imagine how good it must feel. Happy chickens make me feel happy (and that's quite a feat at the moment)

Hi littlebitoginger, they have two dust baths now; an old tyre inside their run which I fill with a mix of wood ash and compost and now this new one in their FR area which I have made using a spare vegetable bed I've had in the shed for a couple of years. I just bought some bags of multipurpose compost from B&Q for £3 per bag and chucked it all in, et voila

 

Gavlojak, you're right, all their combs and wattles are pinking up nicely already

 

I just love the way she's got her eyes closed and was so obviously really enjoying herself
