Alis girls
Just retrieved an egg - had blood on it. Looked at Rhodas neither regions - she moulting and area is red. Maggie has tried to peck area even thou shes got a bumper bit. Put some anti peck stuff on and am also worming them. Put tonic in their water. Not sure why area so red. Not seen any mites and have already put mite powder on them both. Anything I have missed? I am concerned as in past have lost hens during moult. The eggs are nice to have but sooner her be well and happy. She was picked on at her last owners. I am concerned Maggie might be pecking but is that poss with bumper bit? Would appreciate an expert opionion.
Beantree
They can still inflict damage with a bump bit on Alisgirls. The thing to look for is the amount of beak bit extra to the length of the beak. It needs to be about 3mm at least and we have found that the 25mm bits sold by Omlet are not always long enough and have had to buy 30mm ones. Alis girls
Oh really thanks - I didnt know that. Where can I purchase longer ones if needed. Maggies beak is a bit deformed so I wonder if that is why shes managing to get at Rhoda. Little minx
Beantree
We got ours mail order from a gamekeeping supply outlet. They fit the largest size to pheasants at the last stage of rearing. Unfortunately we had to buy 100 of the things!
