Amazing!

Recommended Posts

So I ordered a candling lamp and it arrived yesterday. Decided to candle the eggs while Martha was having her "eat, drink, poo" 20 mins this morning

Never having done it before....bit nervous, but watched lots of helpful videos on-line.

Well, it was amazing all 9 eggs developing well. Phew, silly chicken mummy worrying  But then in her hurry back to settle on her eggs again, Martha trod in her broody poo again :doh: Have to check the eggs for poop tomorrow

So day 19 is next fri :anxious: But I'm at work :( Having said that it might be all over when I get home :D Or if this hatch is like last time they may not hatch till day 21.

Next worry........let there be girls

It should be 21 days

Thanks daxigirl :D I wasn't 100% sure as I had read 19 for bantams, but my experience last time was 21 days!

So day 21 will be sun and I will be here  and also off on mon, but back to work on tues :(

Can I ask a couple of questions??

Martha is eating less than she was last week, poo smaller. Is that ok? Or should I worry? She seems fine. She's having wheat. Also I have some chick crumb......I could give her that? She'll be on it once the chicks hatch.

I'm going to remove the roosting bars from inside the classic, then was going to fill the poo tray with snowflake as a floor material. Will that be ok for the chicks? Or would shavings be better?

Thanks :D

I've used shaving ,shredded wood chip and chopped rapeseed straw for chick with no problems the shredded one is good when they get to a couple of weeks old because it's light enough for them to dust bath in. I did find that the first shaving I used were to big for chicks under 6 weeks old as it didn't lay even on the floor

Flooring will be fine whatever you use. I'd give her the usual pellets that she's used to, I also put a little pot of chopped fruit near so she can have a snackette without leaving the nest, the juice in the fruit doesn't go amiss either. If she doesn't eat it in a few hours chuck it away.

Oh yes it is (hatch) But today I've heard faint cheeping from inside the eggs under Martha and also chipping as the chicks work their way out  It's amazing.........can't wait till the morning to have a proper look when mum's off the nest :D Might not sleep much  maybe I should count chicks

Ok, Ok I know the suspense is killing me too :lol::oops::lol:

So this morning I was expecting maybe at least 1 cutie........nope! 5 eggs had cracks and there was more louder cheeping :D Matha was a nervous first time mum and desperate to get back to them  So I let her.

But just about to go out for a couple of hours.......so took a quick peak.......but Martha who has been a quite gentle broody has turned in to a lean mean pecking machine :lol::lol: But.......I did see a fluffy foot peak out and movement under her breast and wings (and got 3 jolly good pecks for the privilege  )

Will report back later!

Purplemanics I remember when Tumble hatched :D I was hatching then too, Martha was one of those babies :D
