mullethunter
OH's family are from Padstow, so although none of them live there any more (too expensive - don't get me started), we'll be packing up and moving there for the week on Saturday for the traditional May Day Obby Oss celebrations. For Padstonians it's the most important day of the year, and even to the children it's more important than Christmas and birthdays. To an outsider like me (I was born about 12 miles away!) it's an overwhelming, bewildering but incredible day. If you Google it you'll find lots of photo's and video's. I was wondering whether anyone else took part in anything similar?
The Dogmother
There's a big spring welcoming Morris dance event here this Sunday; it's a fun event, and I usually try to get along for a while.

gavclojak
I saw a Rick stein program featuring it mullethunter, it looked incredible but a little spooky, a little like The wicker man We're a strange country but then again Spain has La Tomatina festival so maybe not so strange after all! Valkyrie
We have the Hook Eagle Morris Men here. I think anywhere there's beer they'll perform. They do wassailing for the new allotments here and May Day celebrations and the rest of the traditional celebrations in between the beer fests. They are colourful chimney sweeps that whack sticks. I used to do Morris dancing but we waved hankies. I have to fight the urge to hop and skip. Tried to teach my two while doing the washing. Daddy's socks were the hankies until DS flipped the sock and it flew upwards and into my cactus on the window ledge. It took ages to get the sock off as it was one with little barbs on the end. PixieDust
As Pagans we would love to be part of a local event like Obby Oss, but in leafy Surrey there isn't anything here. The local church has a depiction of a Pagan being martyred. People don't really speak to us here because of no kids and not going to church. Although we love this house, OH is looking to find a suitable job in Wiltshire/Hampshire areas where they do have more like-minded folk around. This is a very old village yet there are no traditions at all here. Really disappointing
Cinnamon
We have the Swan Upping here in Henley, which is always fun to watch. Lots of tradition, flamboyant outfits & very flappy swans
