chris170284
hi i have a sick day old chick at first she appeared to be lethargic couple of hours after i put her in the brooder so i assumed she might need water as she was one of the first out so i thought mabey it was dehydrated but when i tried to give it some water it wouldnt take it so i used a small pipette and it drank down a couple of drops but now the chick is gasping as if struggling to breath i think maybe some water may have gotten in air ways its still alive not chirping or moving much other than the gasping is there anything i can do to try clear airways many thanks
miller30
Hi sorry to hear this chick may have been exhausted from hatching or may have other issues going on personally I would dispatch it if It was older and I thought fluid was in its lungs I would hold it upside down for short bursts but don't think this would be that good for a chick leanne

Beantree
You would normally keep chicks in the hatcher for up to 24 hours Chris. They have to absorb the yolk sac so don't need food or water and will start eating and drinking when they feel the need. Your brooder temperature may possibly be a bit too cold for it as well?
