Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

This morning, I woke up and found my last chicken, Peri-Peri (I was going to get some more), decapitated in the run. My Eglu (and run) are on a concrete patio, with some bricks around the edges to hold it down. Something has moved the bricks, got into the run and killed my chicken.

 

Could a fox do this? Or maybe a large rat?

Very worrying that something could move the bricks. It could have been a fox but I would have thought you'd have been able to see where it got in. Maybe a stoat or a mink?

I have spent a fair few years relying on bricks either to hold runs down or as an extra skirt around a home made enclosure. I haven't had a problem, but would be interested to hear other people's experiences. I guess it may be easier to move a brick on a hard surface, than on grass, especially if they aren't butted up and there is nose or paw room between the bricks

I'm sorry to hear it. How did it get into the run - did it burrow under or lift the edge of the run up?

 

It doesn't sound like a fox, I'm wondering if it could be a mink?

Oh no I am sorry to hear that. What a horrid thing to find.

 

Like lots of omletteers my run is on slabs with bricks around it, what a worry.

I still don't know what did this. However, I have added more clips to gaps in the run (not big gaps, can just about fit a finger through). A double layer of bricks around the corners and a concrete lintel (used to hold up houses!) along the skirt. It needs two people to lift it, so hopefully no animal will be able to get in.
