Luvachicken
I was just admiring my lovely girls as you do, and was thinking that the only 2 out of my 6 that have not become broody are the 2 lavender pekins. These 2 are the bottom of the pecking order and I was just wondering if they will never go broody because they are often being chased etc. I'm pleased that they haven't gone broody of course but was curious because they are fluffy pekins. sparkysmum
Oh thank your lucky stars luvachicken! My partridge pekins are also bottom of pecking order but are super broody. Broody cage didnt do the job either So now I turf them out of the eglu in the morning and put them in with the big girls in the hope that they might get a wee bit pecked. Ha ha no chance, my ladies are just far to kind

Valkyrie
Not to worry, I think it is up to the individual really. Our original buff orpie wouldn't stop being broody whereas the other two, splash and blue orpies didn't really do it much and if they decided to then they were easily distracted. Our cuckoo maran was also a half hearted broody - the wheaten maran had to be put in the sin bin for a couple of days because she was very broody. My lavender pekin has been broody, but not every year and when she does it is sin bin for sure. The other 2 pekins weren't too broody. One never did and Mini the black one had to go in the sin bin for a couple of days and then "no way am I going back in there ever". The buff sussex goes broody for a short spell and she's the only one I leave because she's usually such a ratbag and "I vant to be alooooone" when laying and yells until everyone else scarpers even though they are crossing their legs. She actually becomes a nice broody and everyone goes in at the same time in peace! The little silkie was a persistent broody - all over Christmas and probably at least 5 times in the year!!!
