Couperman
Well I have finally got round to installing one of my Infrared Cameras so we can keep an eye on the chooks from the warmth of the front room. It works very well, full colour during the day and night vision black and white of an evening. I just need to hook it up to the PC now and then we can record on motion sensing to see if we are being visiting by undesirables in the night! The other camera I have seems to have developed a fault so will only work indoors, not to worry I was sent it by mistake anyway I am going to order all the bits and bats for a solar powered version for the far end of the garden so they have nowhere to hide, and possibly even a Cube Cam:D It's like big brother without the boring half-witted pond life to spoil it, i.e just the chickens! The Dogmother
That's brilliant Kev, I've been wanting one of those for ages... you can get a set-up that displays the camera views on a secure webpage so that you can watch your chooks while you're at work. Couple of hundred quid though

The Dogmother
I don't know who makes the kit, but I saw it in a shop locally. I expect that you'd find something similar if you google and do a bit of digging.
Geoid
If you have wireless internet, then buy somthing called a "wireless ip camera" or a "wireless network camera" then, all you have to do is set it up, and you can veiw it anywhere in the world! Couperman
I bought the cameras and associated kit about five years ago when we had a problem with car vandalism. I had a problem gettting the video card to work with Windows Xp although I now suspect it was a hardware problem with the motherboard on my PC. I hate Microsoft with a passion and as such have switched to Linux on the main Desktop PC it is amazing how much kit that I thought was knackered works fine with Linux. I will refit the Video capture card tomorrow and download the software 'Zoneminder' for Linux if all else fails I might try the Windows software again. I have just checked the night vision capabilities of the camera and I have to say it is very poor untill the security light kicks in! At the moment the camera is just wirelessly wired to the telly if that makes sense!!!! So we can post on here and keep an eye on the girls without having to freeze to death! The problem with relying on the security light for a good picture is, we can't leave the Cube door open, as the light detects motion (possibly a Fox) it comes on and then the chooks think it's morning and get up, not a good combination! Anywat Iam sure we will work it out! Kev.

The Dogmother
Sounds fab Kev! *Puts on PC Plod hat* Just a reminder that when you're rigging up any CCTV cameras, please make sure that they are only pointed at your property, not public domain i.e. footpaths. We had a case recently, where a resident (rightly) complained that a neighbour's 'crime prevention CCTV camera' was pointed at the path in front of her house. Unfortunately the police got involved and the owner of the camera got a warning. This would've been best solved privately *takes off Plod hat* Phew, sorry for that, but I'd hate any of you to get into trouble. This camera person said that they wer using theirs to cut down on vandalism to their property, but it was clearly trained on the public footpath and this lady's front garden
Couperman
Our cam is only pointed at our back garden. I originally bought the camera's to cover the car on the drive, unfortunately there wasn't a convenient socket to locate it properly so I never got around to it! The night vision camera is great for doing Most Haunted send up's too! Must record one when the computer is working ok and post it on U-tube! Kev.
