CatieB
I have been with vodafone forever. Today I signed up to their app - thank god I did. I could see straight away that I had £3.12 worth of texts outside my bundle. Immediately I knew somethign was wrong as I have unlimited texts, so I contacted vodafone. I have been charged for a premium rate company texting ME A week or so ago I got an unsolicited text offering sex tyoe content if I replied. It was headed free msg so I ignored it. I did think it was odd as I have never been sent such a thing before. I then got the same the next day and I didnt want it to continue so I replied STOP to the number it told me to. I have been charged £3 for them texting me and 12p for my STOP reply. I am shocked that a company is allowed to contact me unsolicited and I pay for it! I have now barred premium services but even so. How can that be allowed.
Willow
That's a bit shocking I didn't think you could be charged for unsolicited spam texts
gavclojak
Surely that's not right? That's disgraceful
ubereglu
I've had this before, and it's really irritating. I am never sure where these SPAMsters get my number from. The latest nuisance texts have come from Euromillions. Grr.
The Dogmother
I have had a few unsolicited texts, but I never bother to reply; I just ban their number.
CatieB
Yes but has anyone else been charged for them?
sjp
from what I know you've been charged because you replied to stop the texts. the main downside to you 'replying' to the text is you've made your number more valuable to be sold on as it's confirmed as a 'live' number to spammers the outfit that sent the text is more than likely from outside the EU so isn't governed by EU or UK telecom regulations best thing to do with unwanted texted is ignore and delete them and block the number most get the message and stop calling after a while as there's no money to be made from calling that number same with unwanted phone calls if you get a second or 2 of dead air ( that the auto dialer connecting to a free operative) between answering the call and the caller talking hang up most times it's a call center trying to pick your pockets same with any unwanted calls hang up no need to be nice to the caller they invaded your space one tip the longer you're on the line talking to them the more valuable your phone number becomes to the outfits that sell phone numbers and contact details and the more spam calls you get
HarrisonFamily
I have also been charged for people to text me - I didn't realise until after the 2nd text - I ignored and deleted both of them - After checking out Martin Money tips apparently they can charge you if you have opted into their service, I haven't so when I received the third I phoned the landline on the text and some old lady answers apologies asks my address and sends me a cheque for the £9.00 Of course some dodgy company now have my address and phone number but I have my £9 back.....
