Am thinking of Thursday. I won't bother mentioning it to my friend - I already know what the answer will be. Already making a list of stalls I'd like to pounce on!

Lucky - hope you enjoy it - I am going to the Dublin knitting, stitching and quilting show in October with my daughter as she lives in Drogheda. I did the Glasgow one earlier in the year but they are great!.

I'm going but on the Friday with my two fabric wrestlers. Very sad I'm going to miss you What's on your hit list this time?

Awww never mind. Plum. I'm planning on quilting rulers!!! I don't really need fabric - although if I see a batik or 2 that I like then I'll be in like a shot. It would be nice to have a go at some of those longarm machines. Not that I'd be buying any - just curious. Also hitting the threads which I need to add to!

 

Oooh Drogheda! My old school chum and bestie's mum came from there so when we went on a holiday to Dublin we went to visit her aunty and cousins just a bit south of there. Cool! Had so much fun. They said I was "posh" and teased me if I'd like the morning paper with my breakfast. I said only if it was The Times - and her cousin came in with a tea towel over his arm and a clock on top of it. He did get squirted with a water pistol later that day. I hasten to add I'm not posh!!!

Threads are always irresistible. One longarm retailer let me try last year, can't remember which but I know you do have to be posh

2 years ago in IndianA went to the Shipshewana quilt festival and had a go on a long arm machine. Got to write my name!

These Amish places have gorgeous quilts.

They are but I noticed that they're not all cotton. Have you made an Amish one. It's on my bucket list

I would love to go and see all those Amish quilts. Obviously not done one, although my trip around the world first one, the teacher said do it Amish style with lights alternating with darks. Loads of florals.

 

Didn't realise they don't always use cotton! Man made fibre!!! Oooh! How very modern!

 

I guess I'll have to do my poshest voice and dress to the 9th degree (unfortunately nothing like that in my wardrobe)! I did wonder about APQS - there's a lady in Devon that does courses. The only other place is Scotland. Devon is closer! Then The Cotton Patch do Handiquilters. Oooh the choices. I know if I ever did have one then it would have to be a stand up one rather than manhandle those heavy quilts - that I have been doing on the normal machine! I also like the idea of using a bungee to clamp the quilt so it raises it slightly making it easier to manouevre - will probably be doing that for some time before even thinking about getting a longarm. I need so much practice!!!

Yes with my daughter so visiting her and seeing my grandson too. He us 6 now and don't get to visit a lot but we Skype every week.

That'll be great, all your favourite things/people at once. Thank goodness for Skype / messenger / Watts App and facebook I know my family a lot better since they turned up in my life.

Plum I hope you enjoy. It was very busy - more so than usual. I managed to have a go on the APQS longarm (eventually - they had no power for 3 hours!) and I was well impressed. It's easy to use and no shoulder issues. Very relaxed and well I wants another preciousssss. I told OH I'd bought one and it would be delivered on Tuesday but he only responded with some very rude smileys.

Bought some rulers for my machine quilting. Ye gods! Expensive! But at least I can play much more. Also managed to source the exact match of green for DD's long awaited hand sewn quilt - it's only been 16 years. So now I can do the borders. I have it downstairs ready to work on. The only other fabric I bought was a couple of plaid fat quarters.

Quite surprised that Creative Grids weren't there this year.

 

Lots of gorgeous quilts. Not quite the wow outstanding types that were there last year (in my opinion) but lots of lovely ones even so. And very clever. And yes 2 day trip is a much better idea!

Sounds like a productive day. You could always look at a reconditioned longarm? I shall enjoy your ruler work as I know I shan't be able to afford any never mind a longarm.

Blacky that's exactly what I told him! But I need practice first. I did show him a Youtube tutorial thingy with the laser pantograph bits. My friend makes so many tops but never finishes them - she doesn't like quilting. There are so many people with them piling up that feel the same way. Although to have a good quilter is expensive and I'd be scared they wouldn't be happy even if I could pass muster! I think he was interested - he said "it sounds like a really good must have for you" - although the rolling of the eyes made me think he was being somewhat sarcastic.

 

I'm sure there are plenty of reconditioned ones - the guy that is in Surrey does them I think. Perhaps a lot of people either upgrade or just don't want them any more? Something to think about for sure - thanks Plum.

Sorry I'm a bit slow posting. Had a great day out and mostly window shopping for supplies, there is so much fabulous material and projects especially the felt and cotton ones. Anyway I bought needles and thread, oh I love the different threads and yummy colours.

 

Real mix in the exhibitions, some amazing picture quilts and textile art that I'll try and fight photobucket and post but I didn't feel the featured artists/ association displays were so inspiring this year. I'll be back
