We use Johnson's dog or cat flea spray Auntielizzie. It's not licensed for chickens obviously, but one or two sprays in the affected area to the skin under the feathers kills any lice moving through the area immediately. Check them over a week later to be sure they are all lice free. We also use a small amount of potash (wood fire ash, not coal as it has Sulphur in it) in the soil bath. It works for controlling lice, but unfortunately not red mite. You can get Barrier Louse powder, which is specifically for chickens, but we've not had much success with it.

A long established breeder told us that the presence of a few lice will stop Northern Fowl Mite and it our experience he was right.
