Luvachicken
I've been advised to use rescue remedy to help calm my younger girls but I can only find one previous post from 2009 so wanted a more up to date reply. Have any of you used it and if you did, what for and did it work ? How did you give it to them, how often and how long for ? Thanks
The Dogmother
I would avoid it as it contains alcohol. Use a good quality poultry tonic such as Nettex Vit Boost or Life-guard.... they both contain B vits, which will help with nerves and stress. They will settled down soon enough as they come in to lay, although this will be slower at this time of year due to the lessening daylight hours. Luvachicken
I found a pet version that is alcohol free. They already have Lifeguard Poultry Tonic in their water. I was led to believe that the rescue remedy is a mixture of calming flowers. Because the younger girls are still terrorising my older girls, although not viciously, the rescue remedy was suggested to calm them. What I saw on the internet was quite expensive for 100ml and maybe I should just leave the introductions to carry on at their own pace. Sadly Polly is chased by all 3 new ones at the same time and she is very oven ready at the moment from moulting. I feel really sorry for her, as she doesn't know which way to turn, so then she heads off to the inside of the cube, closely followed by Gemma and Zoe - the other older ones. The Dogmother
I would separate them again and give them time to get to know each other through some mesh; a stressed chicken is not a happy one, especially so around moulting time. LAB
RR is amazing for humans and I know people who use it for dogs who are scared of storms. You would only need a few drops in the waterer. For an adult human a couple of drops in water is all you need. It is amazing stuff! It will instantly calm down your body that is stressed, but leaves your mind clear. Valkyrie
They used it at the wildlife rescue centre for very stressed little birds. Now if it has alcohol in it, maybe I'll have to test it - just to make sure it's the safe one.
