cutechicky
Well usually you find the breed you want and then buy them from a local breeder/farmer.! lol If you are buying from omlet, then you will be given the available options to choose from their selection of breeds. Cinnamon
If you are getting your girls from Omlet then they usually have Pepperpots & Gingernut Rangers in stock, unless they are out of one breed in particular. Both of these breeds are hybrids, similar to Medowsweet hens,so if you fancy something different & a bit more choice, you can contact Medowsweet, find a local agent & pick from the wide selection of lovely hybrids they have All my girls are medowsweets,so take a look at my photos (link below) for a few examples. Dogs Too
We bought our from a breeder in Leatherhead, near by?? As there are four of us we all chose one each, all different breeds. they are all very happy. BEWARE if you want a white hen, a lot of hens have never seen a white bird before and it can freak them out and they gang up and peck them very badly. The lady where I got mine always has white breeds in with all of her chicks so this doesn't become an issue. Hope this helps.
craftyhunnypie
Ooo I've never heard about the white chicken thing??? I've heard that Red / gingers may get pecked as chickens see it as blood??? Wernlas Collection at Onibury is not far from you - they have some spectacular breeds. But they are pure breeds. As a beginner, I'd recommend hybrids. I think there is a place at Craven Arms. Or you could get them from where I had my hybrids from Creag Mhor Poultry at Wybunbury near Nantwich. I can vouch for his chickens - they are lovely well behaved characters. Karen&Co & Henypeny also got some chooks from there a couple of weeks back! Good luck! Emma.x
