Mel (& Paul)
AND its the shortest day so I can look forward to eventually leaving for work in the light and getting home in the light and spending more time with the chooks
Mrs Frugal
Well, what a day! Not the best day ever. I got in the car to go and fetch Tom from school as his year finished early today. As I drove off the drive I thought the car engine felt a bit lumpy but, hey, it was cold so no worries. As I got further up the road, the lumpiness got worse and worse. I turned out of town and towards the next town where Tom's school is when suddenly the engine warning light came on. O-oh! Last time that happened, smoke came out of the engine and I had to decamp quickly! I stopped and rang LSH to get him to leave work and collect Tom while I rang the RAC. They told me to stay put, lock my car doors, keep my phone switched on and their nice man would be with me in about 90 minutes. An hour later, LSH drove by with Tom so he dropped him off to stay with me so that he could go back to work. Half an hour after that, we'd exhausted eye-spy when up pulled the nice man in the RAC van. Frozen but still smiling, I told him what was wrong and the nice man fixed it for me. He told me he'd follow me home to make sure that we were OK. Good job as it started lumping again. He fixed it on the drive for me in the end and I thanked him profusely (especially after he fixed my clunking car door too ). Ollie, as he finished later, caught the bus home - phew! All sorted - just a few new parts to buy for the car. All the bad things over.....or so I thought! I cooked a special tea. Honey roast gammon with roast potatoes and all the trimmings followed by a chocolate Yule Log, carefully decorated and served with holly leaves round the edge. I carried it in to gasps of delight from the boys and LSH only to drop the damn thing face down splat on the dining table. It can only get better, can't it??? Cate in NZ
Oh, Kate, what a day, poor old you. At least you've had your disasters now, and you've got the boys home from school for Christmas. It'll all be plain sailing from now on in. And I just bet that the Yule log tasted every bit as good for all that it was a bit splattered. looks aren't everything you know
Lesley
Oh Kate! I replied to the car bit earlier in a PM but the Yule Log bit hadn't happened then At least it landed on the table and not the floor! I'm sure it still tasted as good. Things can only get better.............
