marshhens
Just had to share this!! When we got the chooks I tired chopped grapes as a treat - no joy. Today they discovered the grapes growing on my vines - at least 2 ft off the ground - and were just the funniest things jumping up trying to eat them . . . .until they achieved it and now all the grapes are gone . . Helen&Lee
They are great for making you smile aren't they Mine all love fruit, grapes, strawberries and very partial to the damsons that have been falling off the tree - they just won't do veg - the broccolli has been hanging in their run for days They have just found the slate bed under the lilac tree - and the bird seed thats fallen out of the feeders - my slate has been s"Ooops, word censored!"ped all over the place Helen
Milly
Our hens like jumping too - at the moment they are jumping to eat the tiny flowers off a bush near the eglu. But your point about grapes is a good idea. We have a vine which produces small grapes with too many pips so we don't eat them. But I don't think the hens will mind about the pips
arowland17
ours wouldn't touch brocolli at first, but once I dropped some on the floor that I'd cooked for dinner and thought I'd try them with it again and they can't get enough of the cooked stuff, they fight over it have to put one piece each in there, maybe the taste was a bit strong when it was raw, or maybe our 2 are just too fussy for their own good! Shirl
Ours love grapes off our vine too. They get a small bunch every day. I don't know what they'll think when they're all gone.
Helen&Lee
Hmmm I'm gonna have to try cooking the broccolli then. The biggest fight over food they have had so for was cooked pasta - the wing flapping, chasing and clucking involved Helen

Cate in NZ
Chickens are funny with their fussy food habits aren't they . I love watching mine come half flying, half running up the garden when I open the back door, they expect treats every time

enzed
my 2 love grapes, and strawberries. they even join forces to try and shove the netting around the strawberry pots in, so that they can reach them. if it wasn't so funny watching them i might mind. The Bantam of the Opera
Last week my dad bought a little grape vine after watching some sort of DIY wine programme and planned to try making his own. Unluckily for him he left his grapevine within the chickens reach and came out just 2 hours later to see it picked completely clean. He wasn't best pleased but i managed to console him with a double yolker that my little "herro" had laid ealier that day. I was so proud.
