Faye&Ant
Just wanted to say hi to everyone We have been the parents of our four lovely girls for over a month now. We have two polands called Holly and Fearne and two pekin bantams called chirpy and hells bells (Helen to the vet!) I would never have guessed what great little personalities they have and also what little devils they can be They all seem to get on really well although the two polands seem to o the ringleaders and lead the littleuns into all kinds of mischief! I can spend hours watching them in the garden (especially fun watching them eat Anthony's tomato plants - shhh!) and when I am at work I am constantly worrying about them, wondering what they are getting up to. We are getting used to what treats they like and what they don't (which seems to be little). We have also made a dust bath for them but they don't want to use it, instead they prefer to sneak behind the bushes and roll around in the mud there, earth flying everywhere. The little white was covered in mud and dirt, all in her nostrils and everything, we now have to try and persuade her she needs a proper bath - any ideas on how we approach this I also love the way they automatically take themselves off to bed each night and rush out cheaping when I open their door in the morning. It was a bit strange the other night as instead of taking themselves off to their own home, they came in through the patio doors where I was sitting watching them and they all jumped onto my lap and decided to nuzzle under my armpits and go to sleep! I couldn't let them get used to this so had to send them to their own beds no matter how cute it was I am waffling on a bit and could go on for hours, my friends often talk about 'baby bores' and now I am afraid I will become a 'chook bore' - but hey ho I don;t care as I love them to bits!! Will try and get some pics posted soon [/color]
Nicola H
Welcome to the forum Faye& Ant, you are in good company here you can talk all day about chickens and "Ooops, word censored!"ody will be bored............ You could give your little white chicken a bath in some warm water with a little bit of mild shampoo, and then give her a lovely gentle blow dry I am sure she will love it. Just make sure that she is dry before putting her back outside as she may catch a chill if the weather is cold......

Carol U
Hi and welcome Faye & Ant, Its great that you're enjoying your girls so much. I love the bit about them jumping on your lap and snuggling down. As you say, they're such little characters. All my friends tell me that I've become a total chicken bore (I even produce photos of them at every opportunity) but they all get really excited when I give them some of our delicious eggs - a world apart from the supermarket ones! You'll find that everyone on the forum is a total chicken addict.

Richard
welcome. there are lots of articles in the magazines about washing and drying and preparing for shows etc. I must admit I don't bother with mine - they have their own dust baths and I've never given them a wash. Which reminds me, time for my annual wash ....
