Egluntyne
Just heard the hens Boc Bocking. Went out to see what all the fuss was about.....and there was a huge fox lying on top of one of the Eglu's. He scarpered when I shouted. Must put some batteries in the Foxwatch. Egluntyne
I live about 5 miles out of the city centre.....and I've always been aware of foxes either early morning or at night.
Guest
do these 'foxwatch' gadgets really work?
The Dogmother
Apparently they do Poet - people who have them installed say that they haven't seen a fox since. The batteries run down quickly though, but it can be used with a mains adaptor, which is probably the best option.

chocolatedog
What about dogs with Foxwatch? Can they be turned on and off? (Foxwatch, that is, not dogs!!! )
Egluntyne
I think dogs may be affected. Have just replaced the battery in the foxwatch. I let the girls potter about this aft for a while....but they were not out of my sight.
Olly
I bought a Foxwatch about six weeks ago, I was very sceptical but having looked out and seen the fox chewing the plastic shower curtain that I cover the Eglu with I thought it had to be worth a try. I haven't seen the fox since I installed it, nor have I had pawprints on the Eglu, fox scat in front of it, or any rips in the (new) shower curtain. I wouldn't rely on it totally, I still supervise them free-ranging, but I think it was well worth it. I got mine from primrose of London and they sent it really quickly. Egluntyne
Here he is: Not a very good picture as I took it from the house, and then had to tweak it. And do you know what....I don't wish to make false allegations......but I think he's nicked my Flitrap! It was there yesterday when I played with the girls and now it has vanished. Carol U
"do these 'foxwatch' gadgets really work?" Yes, they do. They're brilliant. We find that by not switching it on 'till dusk when the girls go to bed and turning it off early each morning, the batteries last for ages. There has been no sign of fox activity since we got it and we live in a very foxy area. They don't seem to come into the garden at all now - even the parts not covered by the Foxwatch. Previously I was blocking up new holes every morning. A great investment!
