Time to start thinking about them!

I decided about 5 years ago to only make resolutions I could keep and I have.

Last year I decided that if I received poor service that I would complain properly and also would make sure I complimented any exceptional service or customer care. I had a very enlightening year!

This year I have to break one of my own rules because I really do have to lose the weight I've put on since my accident - I'm hoping that being on this forum will provide me with support and help :? I owe it to my health and my children and grandchildren (and my cholesterol levels!)

There are also still a few areas in my life which need an 'ethical overhaul', for want of a better description.

And, thirdly, I must start reading the magazines I have subscribed to - not pile them up and make a 'coffee table' out of them!!!!

I make Christmas Resolutions - that way I only have to keep them for 12 nights

Nope, seriously, IF I can keep them I want to:

loose weight!

take more exercise!

count my blessings at least once a day!

eat more organic / free range food

keep away from supermarkets and use the local shops and farm shops

get my work / life balance back again

mmmmmmmmmmm. Might just about cope with the last four, but unlikely to cope with the first two

I have made the same one for the past 4 years.....lose weight !

Needless to say, I now have a lot of weight to lose, so I think I may give it a proper shot this time, even giving up my beloved red wine :?

Lesley, if you need support I am here - it is much easier if you know you are not on your own

Time to stop saying its baby weight too - my baby is 11 next year :D

I also want to save some money for the future, which is always easier said than done.

I have made a start & have got the Family Allowance transfered into a high interest savings account, which I cannot access easily (my friend did this & found she had over £10,000 this year!)

I was hoping I wouldn't be the only one :D - I can feel a new thread coming for 1st Jan 8)

I love walking around the hills above Buxton. I managed it in July for Carl's birthday, wearing a leg brace and using two walking poles - losing weight will only be good for my knee! Buxton it is, although you may have to wait for me, I have more than 21 lbs to lose :?

My new years resolution is going to be to try to avoid foods that contain battery hen eggs. I think it will be tough when I get invited out for meals and stuff but I'm going to do my best!

For those of you thinking of doing more exercise, I joined the gym at the beginning of this year as I was terribly unfit. Deep down I didn't think I would stick to it as I find treadmills and the like really boring! Out of curiosity I went along to a body combat class and surprised myself by really enjoying it! It was exhausting as there is lots of jumping, punching, kicking and shouting but I had the time of my life and found myself looking forward to sundays when the class was on. So my advice would be rather than dragging yourself along to exercise you don't really want to do is take a look at all the different types of classes you can do either at the gym or sometimes at community centres etc. There are more different classes out there than I had a clue even existed give them a try and find something you enjoy and it will make all the difference.

Good advice Aylana - there is a lot out there. I shall go back to swimming though. I've gone swimming three mornings a week at 7am for as long as i can remember until I hurt my knee 3

years ago - I think I can get back to it now my knee is a bit more stable.

I would love to do some of the classes out there - I used to do Pilates, which I love.

I often make New Years Resolutions, but they're the mix of achievable and things that I feel that I should do, but am unlikely to. For that reason, weight loss is not a resolution this year, I say it every year and never really achieve much, lose a few pounds here, put them back on there.

I'm focussing more on improving my quality of life this year, and developing things that I started last year.

So more veggie growing and general work in the garden. I did a bricklaying course in the Autumn which means that when the weather improves I can build some walls in the garden; 2006 is the year of plumbing as I've signed up for a plumbing course in Feb  - these skills should mean that I can do more DIY things myself rather than having to get tradesmen in.

I also want to make more effort in maintaining valuable friendships, not taking them for granted, and in being more assertive in limiting my time with the "drains" that I'm friends with.

Finally work has been getting me down for a long time. I've been in the same job for 9 years and there are a lot of benefits to staying where I am, but there have been a lot of problems recently and I've been feeling unhappy and unsupported, and very taken for granted. So this year I've got to stop complaining, for making excuses for my employers and myself, and work out what is best for me and mine..... and if that involves moving on, then I'll be job-hunting come the spring

My answer was "might think about it" as I'm good at willpower but don't usually make NY resolutions. However, I think they are a good idea, being an opportunity for a fresh start, so I will have a think.

Being a bit odd  I usually think of an idea by about March, just when others are giving up on the New Year ones. But will perhaps conform (not too much  ) and start on Jan.1st this year.

I abhor the sector of the diet industry which encourages cutting out nearly everything and not enjoying food, when it results in many people being unhappy with themselves and swinging from loss to gain forevermore.

However, I fully support anyone who takes steps towards a healthier body & lifestyle, and will be with you all the way Lesley & co.

Mine is going to be that, every time I think of someone and decide that I will phone/write /email soon, I will do it straightaway! I've thought that a lot this year, then find that I kick myself for not doing it, or saying "oh, I was going to phone you".

I love just popping a card to someone when I think of them, for no specific reason, but I've really let it slip.

I'll re-instate it in 2006. 8):D

I have made 5 resolutions...........

1. Go to church once a week...............we have a lovely church and only about 3 people go..it's a good place to go and think! As mentioned above it will be a goodopportunity to count my blessings.

2. Visit me ex-neighbour once a week. She is 95 next year, in a local nursing home.

3. Grow my own veg. For my special birthday in June hubby is letting me get some help in the garden...............to get on top of some heavy maintenance flower/shrub beds...............once done I want to keep on top of things.

4. put my home life as No. 1 priority

5. Lose weight.I have proved I can do it..a good way is to listen to energetic music, I have a fantastic cd which I would be willing to share with anybody. Then when at the gym etc play it in headphones.. ie we could think of the other people on here trying to do the same.

A few of us need to lose weight and probably most of us feel the same way about the 'diet industry' - ( ) Yes, I have been to slimming clubs and it has cost me a fair bit of money to end up weighing more

We can use this thread to provide support and encouragement to each other and prevent boring all the others who have no wish to read about our trials and tribulations!

I won't be starting just yet as I still have some 'high days and holidays' to come but the thread is here for those who want to start chatting and prepare themselves.

Any other ideas welcome - I know Denise has a CD to tell us about.

Mine for next year is not to be at home at Christmas!

What a fantastic one this year(can you hear the irony yet?)

My sis is three months pregnant in new year.......her husband was going around broadcasting it,when she asked him not to because of previously miscarrying  .......then on xmas day he tells her he wants her to have an abortion :twisted::twisted::twisted::twisted::cry: .

Then to top it.....he leaves her on boxing day?

Hes always been a W****R.

Now hes proved it.

Didnt just upset her, there is the rest of us trying to help her pick up the pieces.

 Oh, the poor love, I'm not surprised if she's in pieces. But having family around will be just what she needs, all the love & support you can give.

Big hug to you, Bracken, a horrible experience for you too. An awful end to 2005, but a lot can happen in a year. So, here's wishing all of you the very best for 2006.

Can I suggest something...Don't bother with NY resolutions but make a date and say 'I'm going to...' whatever it is you want to do.

Please don't diet (I see the consequences of more weight gain) but make lifestyle changes (antony worrals GI cookbook has useful info 'IF' you feel the need to follow any plan) If you feel deprived then you'll want to eat more so I don't think 'deprivation' is a good idea. Get as active (movement not just exercise) as you can, it all helps and adds up.

I want to get more active so have started this week as no work, no point in waiting til jan 1st. We can all support each other, in whatever it is we want to do!!:D

Promise not to interfere!
