Thanks Sheila  I don't want my work hat on. The TV is hideous at the moment. before xmas eat , drink and be merry then on the 26th... You're fat lose weight try weight watchers, slimmers world and dvd this and health spa that!!:evil: They make the problem escalate and affect how we feel about ourselves. Self esteem all caught up in image.

A woman was flogging a dvd this morning and said "here's me before" she was slim but wearing a tight shirt, awful and so unfair :twisted:

Rant over!!

Come on girls don't let the media drive this jan 1st hysteria, I for one am going to get out about and enjoy this time of year and refuse to watch GMTV until the 'diet' phase has passed!!:D

Good advice Buffie - I assume you do this for a living ???

I need to make some huge lifestyle changes, & I do need to cut down on what I eat & drink also.

I have over 5 stone to lose, so have a fair way to go before I can feel happy with how I look again, but am determined that this time I will change a few aspects of my life.

I have tried ALL the diets, & have lost weight on most of them, but as soon as I falter, the weight goes back on (& then some!)

Exercise is my problem. I just hate it I'm afraid!

Tried everything........nothing appeals, but I know I am going to have to get more active somehow :?

If Michelle Mcmanus can do it then SO CAN I :P

It is good advice Buffie - I hate the word DIET. If 'diets' worked then there wouldn't be such a big industry selling us a dream. I went to Slimming World and WW before realising that the system only works for a few and they are the ones that you get to see in adverts and magazines. For the rest, we end up weighing more and it becomes a perpetual cycle. I stopped and was much happier.

Healthier lifestyles and more activity, as Buffie says, can only make us feel better about ourselves whatever size we are.

Setting a date for starting though is a resolution in itself but I agree we don't have to make it 1st January - I don't intend to start until I've eaten - and enjoyed  - the big box of Thorntons I received for my birthday today :D . I'm just mentally preparing myself to really do something about it - soon

 Enjoy the box of Thornotns, and LIFE generally ..... I used to be a petite size 8, and at one point was 6 stone in weight. Now ... size 14, and never happier. Will get fitter now we have a dog, that MUST have 2 walks a day ... and know myself, were the other excess calories come from. Its a choice ... but not the B all and End all. Anyone can do the diet thing ... even starve themselves (given enough will-power/determinatione) BUT at the cost of really feeling happy and healthy.

Rant over again ...... Be Happy peeps in 2006.

Pass a choc Lesley .....

Have a great sheet I use with clients, so if you want it just PM me with your email address and I'll forward it.

Extract:

As the body on a strict diet is trying to conserve energy it slows down its consumption of energy (metabolic rate). Dieter’s find that the more weight they lose the harder it becomes to continue to lose weight. The cells are burning energy whilst the brain is giving orders to store.

Very useful to explain what happens mentally and physically.
