DonnaS
I can't believe it. I've just eaten two small packets of Milky Bar buttons (they are in a bag of mixed chocs left over from Christmas on top of the fridge) - while I was on this forum! Husband busy with the kids while I have a look at what's been going on today. I can't believe I was so stupid... The sooner those chocolates have gone the better... Bad Donna Bad Donna .... Mel (& Paul)
Thanks Sheila I actually feel quite positive that I will do it this year. I am not going to try any faddy diets and lose 3stone in one week but ensure I cut out (or down) on the naughties, walk up the three flights of stairs at work (rather than take the lift) etc.! Lets hope that the clothes that seem to have mysteriously shrunk over the last year will stretch
buffie
So sorry , I meant to post a link for the Australian food pyramid. Here you are: http://www.nutritionaustralia.org/Food_Facts/Fact_Sheets/about%20_the_healthy_eating_pyramid.asp It is far better that our British Dietetic Association info and actually gives quantities etc. I liked the questionaire that helps check if your diet is varied enough. I use it alot in my work BBX

The Dogmother
Homemade cakes are best and are my nemesis Lesley, Rosie caught the lurgy from me afetr Christmas and has only just got over it - the tummy cramps go on for quite a while
The Dogmother
Just got this in an email and thought that it might belong here: For those of us that have over indulged over Christmas.... 'Twas the month after Christmas and all through the house Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse. The stuffing I'd nibbled, the turkey I'd taste The yummies I'd eaten gone straight to my waist. The wine and the mince pies, The bread and the cheese I should have just said, "No thank you, please." So as I dressed myself in my boyfriend's old shirt, I couldn't believe my bottom and belly- the girth! I said to myself, as only I can, "You can't spend the year disguised as a man!" So away with the last of the sour-cream dip, Get rid of the fruitcake, every cracker and chip. Every last bit of food that I like must be banished 'Til all the additional ounces have vanished. I won't have a cookie, not even a lick. Instead I'll chew on a long celery stick. I won't have Irish coffees, or chocolates, or pie, I'll munch on a carrot and quietly I'll cry: "I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore- But isn't that what January's for?" Unable to giggle, no longer a riot, Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet! For those who are affected by this poem you can ring the special diet helpline on the following number: 808080028 (Ate Nothing, Ate Nothing, Ate Nothing, Nothing to Ate)! HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Guest
Very good Clare! I too have lost 3 lbs over the weekend, but I'm going to struggle today I think, really hungry. I have made some more vegetable soup with languishing veg that I hadn't used - turnips, celeriac, carrots, parsnips and leeks, with a can of tomatoes. I hope it tastes all right! No rolls for me though, just vegetables and fruit.

buffie
Right who wants to join me in the 10,000 step pedometer challenge. I did it last january as I was getting ready to stop smoking (which I did in feb lasy year ) This year just want to do it as 40 very soon and want to start doing proper walks like we used to. Mikey is up for it and we now have a pup that will enjoy walking distance in the not too distant future..... I'm going to pop this on another thread and see you there if you fancy getting a cheap pedometer and watching your daily steps increase making you feel a sense of achievement and letting you know you are getting fit and manageing your weight (got clients doing this last year and it was good) BBx
Guest
10 thousand a day, Buffie? I have a pedometer which I wear all the time. I probably only reach 10k once a week but usually manage 7-8k. Yes, I'll take up the challenge and that will fit nicely with Sheila's suggestion of a 20 minute walk a day! Thanks! Do I post my steps each day? buffie
Have started a new thread Ginette 10,000 steps a day challenge. Yes sorry it is 10,000 a day and the idea is now in many countries to get people fitter. You can do what you want, talk through problems or just proudly tell us you've added a few steps to your day, give hints and tips.. I think it's a matter of making use of the nice supportive bunch of Omleteers, I'm sure some others will join us. Just got my batteries so am about to see what I do in this afternoon. Anyone is free to join at anytime!! This is open to all by the way. No matter of fitness as you are challenging yourself not each other!BBx
The Dogmother
I'd love to Buff, but I walk to school, then on to work, back home for lunch and back again, then back home at the end of the day - it's not far, but once I am in for the evening I have to stay in with Rosie, so I'm not going to get the chance during the week. I have decided that when Rosie is with her dad for the weekend I will go the the gym/have a walk as much as I can. My issue is not so much with fat as with fit! I used to be super-fit, but that has slipped as I can only get to the gym one evening a week, but I mean to make up for it this year and claw back some of the fitness that has disappeared. Perhaps I could post on here when I go to the gym/for a run, then I would feel guilty if I didn't do it.
Guest
hey don't feel guilty Clare... Gulit just makes you do extremes and then lose momentum. It should be manageable amounts of exercise easily achieved on a regular basis, regular is the key not hours and hours. How about you and Rosie having a walk round the block, she'd enjoy it too. W'll support you in whatever you do Clare. I haven't got a weight issue but want to tone up and maintain things really. BBx
Lesley
I bought one last year just to see how I was progressing with learning to walk again - still not mobile enough to manage 10,000 a day but i might join in with my own limit?
