Tessa the Duchess
Arrived today, amazing service from Primrose the suppliers. Ordered it y.day online and it arrived this morning Got a mains adaptor because I'm useless at remembering to change batteries. I do have a question however. I notice it has a spiky thing to stick it in the ground, but it also has a bracket so you can hang it on a fence or shed. The fox that is the bane of my life, gets into the garden by scaling a 6' fence, then jumps down on top of my compost bin. Should I hang it directed towards the fence and compost bin, or stick it the ground? I'm thinking in the ground would be best just in case the fox approaches from another direction. What do others do? Tessa
Ziggy
Mine is in the ground, and I find that works well cause it's more at fox level... I keep forgetting to turn it off to save battery life, maybe I should get a mains adaptor for it, as it definitely has kept the foxes away... They take a few days to avoid the garden once the foxwatch is in place, as at first they are still too interested in the chooks, but then the foxwatch proves to much for them to be willing to bear... Olly
I have mine stuck in the ground, on the basis that the fox might enter over the fence, but will then be on the ground - I was worried that if I hung it up, the fox might just run around underneath it, if you see what I mean. I think they're brilliant, nothing is guaranteed but since I got mine I have not seen the fox in the garden, where he was a regular visitor before. I got mine from Primrose too, and when the first one unfortunately didn't work, they replaced it instantly, hope yours is working ok anyway. I also move mine around every so often, just in case Inspector Fox has sussed out an area where he can go without triggering it - I just point it in a different direction or move it a foot or so away. Egluntyne
Mine is stuck into the ground, pointing directly at the Eglu's.
Tessa the Duchess
Thanks for replies and advice. Actually I just found the instructions in the box it says the lens should be 8" off the ground so I'll use the spikey thing. The blurb says it deters dogs which is a drag because my dog uses my garden as her personal toilet but as DH pointed out she is now stone deaf so hopefully wont hear it. DH also said that as 'our' fox looks quite old he might be deaf too which was very unhelpful as I got the Foxwatch for peace of mind, now I'm thinking just my luck to have an old deaf fox Tessa
daj198
We have two foxes who regulary visit our garden, so I was thinking of getting one of these before we get our chickens. I'm just a little concerned that it will upset next-door's dog. Have you guys had any problems like that?
Tweety
My Foxwatch has had no effect at all on the dogs that have crossed its path - and none of them are deaf - so hopefully you should be ok.
