laceway
Well, it's ten days since the GP's arrived and apart from one of them falling out of the eglu door by mistake, they haven't ventured into the run at all. They are very happy GP's, getting used to everything, but will they go out in the run - will they heck. Beginning to think it will be next Summer before they take the plunge. At the moment they are housed on the patio as the grass is very boggy this time of year, so maybe they need the grass to tempt them, who knows. Mez
Hi Laceway, Glad the GPs are liking their eglu. GPs like to follow well established routes that have GP scent on them. If you put them into their run they will find their way back to the eglu by smell. After that they may be more inclined to go in the run of their own accord because it now smells of them. You could also try putting a bit of their used bedding in the run so it smells familiar. Mine used to stay in the house bit all day but now I have trouble getting them to leave the run and go to bed in the evening.
Egluntyne
How about putting their food out in the run for a few days?
The Dogmother
I'd be inclined to lift them out through the pop-hole in the eglu and then bung them in the run door - they'll discover what a nice place their run is. Then when it smells familiar, they'll go out there on their own.
laceway
Thanks for all your suggestions. Will try them over the weekend and hope for the best. Will report back when I get a result. Fingers crossed.
AJuff
Our guinea pigs went to a neighbours for a few days as their daughter wanted to try out looking after piggies with a view to getting some of her own. When they came home it was too dark to carry them down the steps into our garden so we left them on the patio until the weekend came and we had daylight! During that time they didn't ever venture out even for the briefest of moments. They do not like the feel of the paving slabs and even a carrot, their beloved carrots, they wouldn't go out for. When we took them back onto the grass they came running out being all silly and jumping around. Do you have any grass to put them on?
