becks
Does anyone have a little chart or something as to what to plant when? I am determined that this year I will grow some veg as have been meaning to for ages but never seem to get around to it! Am going to plant in large pots as our soil is very shallow and poor quality. Thanks.
Lesley
I haven't got a chart but will look for one for you. I don't start until February when I start off tomato seeds ina heated propagator and go out to buy seed potatoes ready to plant at Easter. SarahJo
May I be as cheeky, to suggest that Lesley starts a garden Diary for us all to follow .... then we will all know what to do and when . As Lesley, has the widest choice of fruit and veg, and success ... I hence nominate Lesley ..... for chief Gardener. . Shall I start running now

Mel (& Paul)
Yup I second that (the bit about Lesley being head gardener, not the bit about optional bras )
Carolinep
Garden Veg diary does sound like an excellent idea. This will be our first year of growing our own fruit & veg in our new garden, So lots of tips & kicks up the rear required as to when to do what. Lesley
Well, thank you for the vote of confidence but we do have some failures and I'm always late and behind. You'd be much better off with a book Mind you, can't be doing with bras at the best of times let alone when gardening - straightjackets would be more comfortable! Jools
There's a brilliant article with planting plans in Country Smallholding magazine this month. Also, I bought OH the River Cottage Diary again and that has loads of info in too. Jools Here's a link to their website: http://www.countrysmallholding.com/content/article.asp?ArticleID=923 Edited January 16, 2006 by Guest

N&J
I have been bitten by the gardeing/veg growing bug - i am being guided through it by a friend and couple of books. Since Xmas I have made some raised beds, got chickens, and planted some garlic. Yep garlic apparenlty needs to be sown in January - easy to grow so I have been told!!!! Only time will tell
Penny
I would love a Scottish calendar if anyone ever sports one. It's often a bit different, season-wise.

Nicola H
That is a "C" Sarah as in Chitting not an "S," if I could do that I would be in the circus..................
SarahJo
Nicola ... shame on you .. I still don't know what CHITTING is, sorry but I am a bit thick when it comes to gardening ... mine is all trial and error (more error) and never involves technical terms. Nicola H
Sarah chitting is what you do with seed potatoes before you plant them out, you stand them in an egg tray or similar in a cool shed or greenhouse and let the little sprouts grow on them before planting in the ground...... Penny
Have you tried one of the search engines Penny - you should be able to find something? I have done a bit of searching but it's quite hard to find so far. Tried Beechgrove Garden and so on but no luck yet.
