Would you like your own eglu page - www.eglu.co.uk

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a data feed export from a blog, or indeed any web site that supports RSS. The idea is that you have an RSS 'reader' application through which you can subscribe to a number of RSS feeds. What this basically means is that people can pull information from your blog, without necessarily visiting the page. Someone could subscribe to, say, 5 blogs, BBC news, CNN etc and the RSS reader would pull all the information from the various feeds so you can view it all in one place; your RSS reader. What usually happens is that summary information is available from the feed and the user then visits the site for more in-depth information.

Still none the wiser Hon

You'll need to speak slowlyi n words of not more than one syllable and with hand signals too; I'm boggle-eyed from too much databasing.

PS I've coloured in the blonde bits now, so I'm a lot cleverer these days

It's all right Clare - I still don't understand how this RSS thingie could be useful. And I've never had blonde anything (except a boyfriend once a VERY long time ago).

You'll have to try again grd :roll::roll:

The bottom line is, it's supposed to be a time-saver. In an RSS reader application you can subscribe to RSS feeds from various web sites. The RSS Reader pulls that information in and displays it without you having to visit all the various web sites. So if I was subscribed to 10 RSS feeds from various places, I could just open my RSS Reader and view them all within that one place. Clearer?

of course

Clare I am glad you said you'd filled in the blonde bits - I was sure you were blonde so didnt immediately recognise the flame haired person at Kew!!!

Makes me laugh. James sent a lovely e-mail saying that he'd sorted my blog. And then said any problems, however small, I could contact him. Does he know what he's let himself in for?!?!?!? Poor poor man

Here's some (constructive) feedback on the blog ... (which I love by the way)

The functionality is a tad basic, could we have an intro at the top of each section, that doesn't get deleted. For say a bit of text and a picture? I would want some stuff to stay there.

I can't get to grips with the formatting, boxes and such; the pix don't seem to load either.

Could we have static boxes along the side for hyperlinks etc.

Kooringa's blog is an example of this.

I hope that you don't mind me getting back to you, and that it's helpful.

Gina - You are more than welcome to have more than one blog ( a personal and group blog. ) I think group blogs will be really usefull to keep everyone update with meeting etc.

Clare - The interface is rather basic but does seem to work reliably. I have offered my help to the developers and they are working on new back end.

James

p.s. grd did you get my belated email?

Thanks for the explanation of RSS feeds grd. I THINK I understand it now:

Is this the idea? I sign up to several blogs and they sort of come to me instead of me going to them.

Sounds good, if I'm right!
