The Bantam of the Opera
Well i havent found it myself but soemone in my mums yoga class said that a completely tame and freidnly white chicken walked into her house last night. Im going to go and collect it this afternoon. She lives in bramingham, near sainsburys. has anyone or does anyone know of someone who has lost a chicken recently? if no one claims her ill b ehappy to look after her myself. it would jst be sucha shame for someone to lose their pet chicken and think it is gone if i have it. anyway, thats all from me. xxxx
BeckyBoo
Oh bless, at least she was found by someone chicken-friendly. Hope she's reunited quickly, her poor owner will probably think she's been foxed Mrs Bertie
little chickadee
No help from me I'm afraid, but I'm guessing you, or one of your children is rather fond of Harry Potter?
The Bantam of the Opera
yeah taht was my worry, i would be heartbroken if one of my chickens were foxed. i wouldnt want the chickens owner to feel sad if theres no need for it. maybe ill make some found posters. and yes its me who is the harry potter fan. i love the books so much!! I don't have chicldren im only 17 >.<

The Bantam of the Opera
thankyou! i've got some pictures now, shes just arrived, she is very muddy (from dustbathing i assume) and she is well fed and healthy looking. friendly and not scared of humans either, she must've been a pet. she didn't have her wings clipped however so im guessing thats how she escaped, ive clipped them now. here she is: i hope her owner finds out >.< you can contact me with any details if someone claims her she is a very nice chicken. The Dogmother
Oooo, a very pretty light sussex - good layers and good table birds too. I hope you find her owner soon.
The Bantam of the Opera
also, does anyone know how far a chicken can fly if it hasnt had its wings clipped, it woulld be useful to know how far away she couldve come from. like i said she is very healthy so i dont think shes been on the run very long. xChicken04x
Hate to say it but are you sure she is a she? Look at her tail feathers, I don't want to worry you though, I'm probably wrong xx
The Dogmother
I did look twice at the tail feathers, but it has 'girl legs'
bronze
I would expect its facial features to be larger for a male too
Egluntyne
Without knowing her/his age it is hard to tell how well developed the wattles and comb are. The tail feathers are a bit blokeish, but as I agree with Claret that the feet and legs are girly. It's anybody's guess at this stage. When she starts to crow you'll have your answer!. The Bantam of the Opera
I have to admit i thought at first she might be a boy but i checked her legs and no sign of spurs or spurs beginnig to grow, also she crouches when i go to stroke her, isnt aht a sign that she may start laying or already is laying? correct me if im wrong. Egluntyne
You are right!...if she lays an egg then you'll have your answer!
feemcg
Girly saddle and hackle feathers too . No response to the post on practical poultry I'm afraid, Jem
The Dogmother
It looks like a young hen to me, possibly under a year old. You've got a good deal there if you keep her - they're supposed to be stonking good layers.
feemcg
....and if she's crouching with such a developed comb and wattles she's probably laying already - I don't think she's a young bird.
Egluntyne
If you get to keep her...what will you call her? Is she getting on OK with your other hens?
feemcg
difference of opinion there Clare
The Bantam of the Opera
oh well, it doesnt matter if she isnt claimed im happy to add another hen to the flock., it would be nice to get another layer aswell as at the moment herro is the only one who lays. its annoying have 7 hens and only getting one egg a dya the ducks arent laying either, i think they must be men anyway i think ill call her luna, to keep in with the harry potter theme^_^ no, shes not getting on with any of my other hens at teh moment which is a shame because hse hasnt anyone to cuddle up to to keep warm, im hoping to intorduce her slowly to the buffs and herro. if that doesnt work i suppose shell have to live by herself. its quite strange though, i gave her a little hutch full of warm straw to sleep in and when i went out when it was dark she was roosting on top of the eglu, she seems determined to be out in teh cold by herself. ive shut ehra way now nd im hoping shell have enough hay to stay warm. its just that because she is so healthy and unafraid of humans, she is good with being held too, it makes me think that she had an owner who loves her alot and trained her well, they must be missing her:(
