Do cubes cover less surface area than the eglu?

I have been looking at pictures of the eglu and it doesn't look so big but when i measured it out in the garden it was huge and took up a large portion of our lawn. Yet the cube looks as though it covers a little less surface area, is that right?

I think the cube has a bigger area footprint but doesn't take up that much more room. The eglu run is long and thin, the cube is much wider and there is space under th cube itself.

Edit: it isn't much wider at all is it, see next post!

I still it would be better if you could buy left and right handed versions to suit where you want to put it!

Having played with lots of cubes while doing shows for Omlet, I've decided that I don't think that the sq footage of the standard cube run is much larger, if at all, than the eglu run - it's just taller. In his picture, Dan has the extension on the cube run, which I'd recommend; after all, if you're going to get a cube to house more hens, then you'll need a bigger run too. In the original cube run, the ladder nearly touches the end of the run.

Yeah i agree. because i have been looking at the eglu but when i measured it up, it's too long for the space where i would want to put it. The cube would fit pretty perfectly, but it would against a wall :?

We've since added another extension to the run, so it is huge now

We have 7 hens and they are locked in the run all day, (especially now, too dark) so we wanted them to have as much space as possible

We have added perches for them too which they absolutely love.

There is a lot of wasted space with the Eglu run (unless you happen to have a trapezium-shaped piece of garden to spare).

The Cube run fills the gaps that the Eglu run doesn't reach, and so is much more economical with space. The hens are able to use a bit of garden under the Cube that is just wasted under the Eglu.

But you have to beware of the extra width needed to pull the Cube handle out to open the door: ideally you need access to both sides of the Cube, whereas you only need access to the right side of the Eglu.
