apple cider vinegar

Recommended Posts

thinking of getting some to keep my ladies in tip top condition, is it something you only use when they're under the weather or can I use it all the time, forever and ever?

been searching for topics but got fed up trying to find the answer :D

****edit*** and how much do I use. I don't use glugs so i need to know how many tsps per ml of water or will it say on the bottle?

thanks

ACV is supposed to deter internal parasites. I've seen conflicting advice on the dosage. One method seems to be to give it for 7 days out of every month, another was put it in the water every day. I don't think the dosage is too vital but don't quote me!

I add a splash to their glug but as I only put it out about 3 days out of 7 (OH is up earlier than me & doesn't bother) it's hit & miss how often they get it. I end up throwing away half a glug every night so half of it ends up the flowerbeds anyway :? .

Don't know if that helps much :? .

not really ;) but bless you

we use a large coop cup for the water which has to be refilled once a day (i.e. they drink 2 whole coop cupfulls a day) not sure how many mls that is but I can always measure it exactly.

I'm hoping the bottle will say how much to use per ml of water.

I'd hazard a VERY rough guess that 2 coop cupsfull is about 500ml could be a bit more, but i could be way off but as i say i will measure exactly when the time comes.

Don't forget to use the rough cloudy form of apple cider vinegar, from horsey shops. The dainty stuff from Waitrose isn't the same.

I have spasms of using it. A couple of tbsps in the glug every day for a week. When I remember.

i was looking at the one in the omlet shop but will check my local supplier when we go at the w/end as we need pelletd and wormer anyway.

spasms eh? careful you don't spill it! ;)

I have the horse stuff, and I think its ment to be 1% of their water, so I just pop a couple of caps worth in their water. I add it to their water everytime I refill it, as they drink a lot of their water from other sources anyway (like my water feature) you use so little that it lasts decades anyway.

just had a thought, can someone please tell me how much water a glug holds because if you put 1/4 tsp in a glug (as per omlet shop) then I can work it out that way! :)

The dose is 20ml to 1 litre of water :D

I use it for 7 days every month. I always start on the 1st of the month or else I would forget

I only started using it earlier this year after reading a very interesting article on it on Practical Poultry.

APPARANTLY (from what I can remember)

It helps deter parasites

helps with general health

Growth of feathers

Egg production

Absorbtion of calcium (Good for egg production)

the list went on and on and I thought even if it only does 1 ro 2 of the things it says it does its worth a try so I have used it almost always since about Aug.

We have big water drinkers and I worked it out as a capful of the size bottle we have to a full container, (Not very helpful I know but it;s easy to work out)

I use a few drops of Poultry Tonic every day in the water pot - although the girls aren't over keen on this they seem to be pretty healthy birds.... (they seemed to like citricidal when I used that a while back!). I think I read somewhere you have to be careful not to overdo the ACV as they won't like the taste and it can put young birds off drinking..... :? But I can't remember where I read that.

Cider vinegar really helps their imune systym when given for 7 days in their drinking water on the trot

as the flubenvet has to be given for 7 days, and we are doing this too, i'll do it at the same time and see how it goes.

cheers everyone else.
