ktdot
Priscilla has changed overnight, from the shy one who always stood back and got food last and wouldn't come too near people, to the first in the queue for food to the point that she came and sat on my lap this afternoon (sorry Poet!) to be nearer the sultanas! Has anyone else noticed a total change in personality in their chickens as soon as they start laying?

ktdot
I was too shocked to get the camera plus she'd have fallen off my lap!! She was very sweet, chatting away to me. I know it was only cupboard love but I can pretend. With Babs at my feet and Muriel on the arm of the bench I felt like some sort of mad bird lady!! With Babs at my feet and Muriel on the arm of the bench I felt like some sort of mad bird lady!! there's an old man (don't know if he's still there these days) feeds sparrows from his hands near the sacre coeur in Paris and they are all over him. There's even postcards of him in the shops, he is/was a local celeb, very sweet. When we were in London, the old guys in Hyde park were feeding birds from their hands too so i pinched some bread from our hotel and tried the same trick but couldn't get any birds to come to me this is a photo of me (looking like a total idiot!), bread in hand but no birds! I'm just destined to be shunned by the feathered species!
ktdot
I think it's all a case of bribery. I don't think for a minute my chickens really want to come that close to me, they just can't resist sultanas! Mind you, I did have a robin that would feed from my hand in a previous house. Maybe I am a mad bird lady! 'Feed the birds, tuppence a bag'
Guest
I did have pigeons all over me in Trafalgar Square but that's hardly a challenge! change your user name to 'mad bird lady' I like it!
Snowy
That's lovely ktdot! Mine also had a personality transplant when they came into lay. Rosie the araucana x sussex was always the scarediest thing imaginable, always hid in the corner of the run. Now she actually runs up and crouches in front of me! The little hussy. So I just pick her up and carry her round for a cuddle, she's so lovely I can even forgive her laying beige eggs instead of blue!
ktdot
Mind you, I did have a robin that would feed from my hand in a previous house. Maybe I am a mad bird lady! 'Feed the birds, tuppence a bag' Went Christmas shopping this morning (still feeling traumatised!) and bought a pasty for lunch and ate it in the car. After a couple of minutes there was a young starling on the windscreen wiper then it sat on the wing mirror. I was feeding it bits of pasty through the window. We ended up with one on each wing mirror and 7 on the floor looking up at us. That's not including the 3 seagulls circling us too! They can obviously sniff out the 'mad bird ladies'!! PS Has anyone else noticed that after getting their chickens, pigeons look really small?!
Janty
My hubby says that my pekins remind him of pigeons. He has got a point.
