cristinaoh
We may think that coddling our chickens is a modern trend but it seems not! I've been reading "Nella Last's War"- the Mass Observation diaries of a housewife ( the television drama Housewife 49 was based on this) . At the start of the war Nella devoted half of her garden to hen keeping. In December 1939 she notes that one of the hens is poorly, and doses it with whisky and quinine "off the spoon", the wraps it in a old vest and tucks it into a basket by the fire. It seems as though chickens have a way of beguiling us despite rationing, blackout, and other privations!

Mrs Frugal
I've got that book too . Chickens bring out the soft side in people, don't they .
Egluntyne
Maybe we should be giving our girls whisky when they are off colour. Well it works for me! Just a splash in a cup of tea.
