Photobucket grrrrrrr

Recommended Posts

I just went to Photobucket to open an account. First weird thing is that someone else's account and album was displayed on the first page. I went

to where you join up, spent 10 boring minutes trying to find a username that wasn't already taken, worked my way through the questions (I do object to having to give my date of birth to join a site like this ) and finally pressed the I accept button when the server timed out :( Went back to create an account and started again  it then said my username and e.mail addy already existed :roll: when I tried to login as an existing user, it just took me back to this complete stranger's album and pics. What

to do? Has anybody else had similiar problems?

That's weird - I had something similar, but didn't think anything of it because it was my son's account on the family PC. Every time I tried to log into my own account, it took me back to his :? I sorted it by logging out of his account and logging in to mine again, then mine came up. I wonder why that happens? It's a bit worrying. :?

It is worrying because of security issues. This person's account is labelled

as 'private' and as I say I could change her password, delete her photos and even cancell her account. I went on to their forum and I have e.mailed, so

will have to see what the reply is, if they bother. How do you log out of an

account, maybe this is what I should do

Yours was down to the cookies on your machine Snowy - if your son didn't log out when he'd finished using his album, then next time anyone using yoru machine goes to Photobucket - it 'saw' your machine and recognised it as being used by your son, so brought up his account. If you use a common machine it's always best to log out of any site that you use a password to access.

Sorry Tessa, I can't hel;p with your problem... that is very odd. i am sure that someone else will be able to though.

Apologies I know this is boring, but could some kind person, who isn't trying to get their kids to bed, or watching their favourite telly programme, go to

photobucket, not through your bookmarks but google it and go in as if you

are a brand new would be joiner, and see what you get up when it opens.

Although if Claret says it recognises your computer maybe it won't work, I

just tried it on DH's PC and it does the same thing as it does on my Mac:shock:

I just googled and went to photobucket via the google link but just get the normal home page, thank goodness! I never ask those sites to remember me.

Do you think the person who owns the account could be wireless and near you and you are picking up her info if she doesn't have proper security set up, is that possible or do I listen to too many scaremongering stories :?

That is feasible, if you are on a laptop with Wifi roaming enabled, you could connect to a neighbours network by accident and if for whatever reason they have shared things they didn't mean to.

I doubt however that anyone who is clued up enough to set up a network would be stupid enough to leave it wide open. Generally people who don't know how to secure their wireless network only end up sharing their internet connection with the rest of the street.

It could be a glitch at photobuckets end?

Quite Bizaar!

Erm, that would be me Kev!

Got the wireless thingy working on the PC and I use it via the laptop. It always tells me it's an unsecured connection, but I don't even know how I got it working in the first place so haven't a clue what to do about it :?

I did figure out the cache thing Egluntine and sorted the photobucket thing 8)

I don't want to be bossy......but you need to sort out the security thingy out asap especially if you buy a lot on line, Snowy

There will be instructions lurking somewhere.

I bet your son could sort it out. They are much more savvy then us oldies about such things.

Good luck.

:oops: I know, I know :( I will do. Trouble is I need to get on the PC and really concentrate and most of my computer time is dipping in and out without thinking  Actually I think I know what to do, just need to get round to trying it. I get so frustrated with computers though when they don't do what I want I'm dreading it. Need to use my cognitive behavioural therapy on myself - think positive!!!:lol:

My neighbour has wireless and hasn't got it secured, my techie friend noticed when he came to fix my PC - as soon as he switched his laptop on, it picked up not only next door's netwrok and internet connection (BTW it's illegal, but totally inenforceable to use someone else's wireless internet connection without permission - but loads of people do) but also his machine and files. Luckily Si has a conscience and went round to tell the neighbour and advise him how to sort it.
