buffie
We're not short of volunteers to be honest (rehoming wise) fundraising is a really importnat part of the work and there's lot's of things you can do to raise money for BHWT. Any ideas for fundraising just let me know. I would like to get a sponsored walk organised, anyone got some skills in that department Jane is out of the office this week but I speak to her weekly and will look at any suggestions on here and pass them on. Right matters of a dog walking nature to attend to, or Daisie will give up on me BBx
theherd123
Poet i would struggle to go into the battery farm too so you are not alone! When i go and pick my girls up on the day of rescue i usually bake a cake for the rescuers to eat and i always take Monica & John some flowers to say 'thanks' for all they do. On the notion of fundraising ideas we havent had a silent auction for ages! Does anyone have anything chicken related we could auction off?? (Sorry OHs not accepted!) Martin B
John and Monica are very grateful too Emma! Silent auction would be a good idea. I would love to have one of those shakey tin things and just stand around at the Stratford Farmers Market with some leaflets! I didn't think I would be handle the farm but you get used to it. The farmer we get our girls from is great! A real laugh and so friendly. He has moved from Battery to Barn and he has just finished building a 2000 capacity free-range unit! AMO
Thanks to Martin I am now a regular helper with the Warwickshire Co-ordinators Ian and Molly . We (OH and I) went to the farm on the last rescue and after the intitial of the cages I just braced myself and thought the sooner we get you out of there the better!! It is extremely hard work, but, so rewarding. At the last rescue we had a table with mince pies, Christmas pud muffins and non alcoholic mulled wine - people could leave a donation if they wanted (and hadn't any broken teeth) and I think we raised an extra £15 which goes back to BHWT. Here we are with some happy customers! Next time we are having a soup station! Every bit of support helps and is greatly appreciated! craftyhunnypie
I have added a BHWT to my Christmas wish list & a jute bag. I did send hubby the link to sponsor a hen, so who knows. What I really want is another eglu & rescue some hens! Yes, I would like to help out the co ordinators in my area. I know it would be tough, but to think that the hens will see a brighter future must be so rewarding. I shall concentrate on some fundraising for BHWT in 2008. I have also been meaning to ask you Buffie about something else. I am going to leave the BHWT a donation in my will (being made on Wednesday). You can never say when you are going to 'pop off' - but I can always change my will should the BHWT not need to exist in the future - due to all birds being free range. However, I wanted to donate to a worthy cause, animal related & this is the one that is top of my list. My eglu, cube & chickens will be looked after by my hubby, if not him - then my sister & if not her, then to a lovely Omleteer! I am planning on making some winter warmer fashions for Battery hens after Christmas - watch this space! Emma.x (trying to do her best to help). Olly
I am already involved with three charities, and know I haven't got time to help - I have bought BHWT jute bags for all my friends for Christmas this year, though! (They will get something inside the bag, as well!) What I am trying to do is spread the word, especially about the 'hidden' battery eggs, because although I'd bought free-range eggs for years I had rather naively not thought about the eggs used in cakes, mayonnaise and other products. Whenever I give eggs away, and people remark on how lovely they taste, I always take the opportunity to make the point ... so I hope I am converting a few people along the way. We all appreciate your support You're all doing your bit to bring hens out of cages, be very proud of yourselves BBxx
