Think when you send your cards.

Recommended Posts

I remember groaning when we had around 60 cards from school friends to accomodate on my already overcrowded mantlepiece

That must be one big mantlepiece Kate!:wink: We've had stacks from Stefan's nursery. I have no idea who half of them are. I have only sent back cards to those who Stefan shares his days with.

I love sending cards at Christmas (this year has been a bit of a disaster. Can't seem to get organisedat all) and I always send (and recieve) cards from old university friends who I never see or speak to throughout the year. I think the thought and sentiment is really important and means a lot to me. I always like to write something more than just names too. A bit of a message makes it more personal.

Like you Kate - we had an address book disaster when we moved three years ago. I expect our old house will have lots of cards addressed to us. Infact - I might pop round this year and ask.

Christmas is a good excuse to be in touch with people you don't normally see or speak to on a regular basis, and it brings people to mind you wouldn't necessarily think of during the year.

I bought the BHWT cards for extra special people & made all the rest. People tend to keep handmade cards. Oh & I hate it when a card says to Emma & Steve from ............! That's it, not thought, no Merry Christmas & All the best. Horrible!

I had a lovely card yesterday from the Hotel we stay in , in Austria. It has a wooden Christmas ornament on the front of it & a greeting all in German inside - very personal & I love it. Gave me an idea for next years cards - guess what I'll be buying at the Market tomorrow? Wooden ornaments, to put away for next year!

I would love to be able to write a personal message in every card I send out but I never get time. Sometimes I just sign them, sometimes I enclose a round robin letter, with an apology for it. But as for the cards I receive I am really happy to get one from old friends even if they only sign their names in it. I only send cards to people I think fondly of and I assume/hope they do the same.

Sometimes I have had no more contact that the annual christmas card with old friends for years but if I find I am going to be in their neighbourhood I contact them and we have met up and had a good old chat and catch up.

This year I found a change of address for an old friend that I hadn't amended my address book when I got it so I have been sending their cards to the wrong address for a couple of years. This year it was the right address and yesterday he phoned to say he had got it but wouldn't be sending out any this year as his wife had died a couple of months ago (I'd never met her)and he was still just too distressed to get involved with Christmas. We had a good talk and a laugh about old times, so hopefully that cheered him up a little. When you exchange cards only at Christmas its because you are busy and you assume that the recipients have a full and busy life, which mostly they do but by keeping in touch you are more likely to know when they are going throught a hard time and if you are able to help by having more contact then IMO its worth it.
