Tessa the Duchess
Wow Bron your hair looks great really shiny even at the ends. How long have you been on the shampoo wagon? LOL at your 3 yr old taking the pic, he's pretty good. Tessa
Lesley
- what a sweetie for taking your photo Your hair looks lovely and shiny Bron.
Ain't Nobody Here
Well, here goes .... no shampoo since early October .... as you can see I have VERY dry hair, which usually tends towards frizz, although this is it washed with hot water and lemon juice this morning, a bit of mousse while damp and no conditioner or straighteners (yet ). It would normally be a complete fluffy, bushy nightmare (still is a bit ) so this is a big improvement for me.
Tessa the Duchess
ANH, your hair looks really smooth and shiny for about the first 6 inches, it really seems to work. My hair is very similiar to yours only mine's thinner, old age does horrible things to us all Mine is very dry too and tends to frizz unless I blowdry it into submission I'm scared to use straighteners because I think that would totally finish it off Thank you for being brave. and Bron too. Ain't Nobody Here
Tessa, I was scared to use straighteners too but they're amazing . I just very quickly straighten the top layer (which is the frizzy bit) and it makes a huge difference. It feels smooth and looks totally un-frizzy. I think my hair looks more "damaged" when I haven't used them . If you use them daily, I think that's when you get damaged hair.

My son's g.friend has some very snazzy Ghd straighteners that I bought her one Christmas, maybe I'll give it a go then. I'll hold you entirely responsible if it all goes terribly wrong (only joking). Keanie Bean
wow, you both have really good hair, I hope i can get mine to that stage. How long has it taken you both to get it like that? When you first started with the no shampoo thing was your hair initially greasy? Sarah.x
Ain't Nobody Here
Tessa, I would give the GHDs a go (that's what I've got). Just make sure you use a straightener spray on your hair too. I don't try to get my hair dead straight all over (I'd never get anywhere ), I just straighten the frizzy bits. Keanie, I've always hated my hair so thank you . I gave up shampoo at the beginning of last October (once had it washed at the hairdressers when I was too to ask them to not use shampoo). It takes ages (a couple of weeks ) for my hair to get greasy because it's so dry and frizzy. That's why I've found it no problem giving up shampoo. Hot water seems to be enough to get rid of any greasiness there is.

chickencam
I think you have beautiful hair too, mine is so fine and greasy that unless I wash and blow dry it every day it just looks lank and straggly. Yours has body and shine. Am I right in thinking that the whole no 'poo business is more suited to thicker dry hair than thin greasy hair? Keanie Bean
Well if its anything to go by my hair is REALLY fine and gets greasy really quickly, but I'm only on my second week of this, so no long term effects yet. I washed it with lime juice this morning and its only just bearable to go to work with, but if I brushed it it would be plastered to my head and would need a trowel to remove it. I'm lucky enogh to have some curl in my hair so its not soo bad. I'm determined to go through with this though, although I'll have to work up the courage to post any pics further down the line. Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks for the compliments - I've spent my whole life hating my hair so it means a lot . Am I right in thinking that the whole no 'poo business is more suited to thicker dry hair than thin greasy hair? I would say so - I suppose it takes much longer for the grease to work its way through the hair so you can get away with no washing for longer. I have noticed if I use the straighteners, the top of my head looks "greasy" much more quickly. At last . A good thing about frizzy, dry hair . Keanie Bean
Well I've been washing my hair every 5 days since just before Easter and I'm definately beginning to notice that its taking a little longer to get greasy. I used to have greasy hair by the end of the day if I had washed it in the morning, but now its lasting over night and 48 hours later its really not too bad. I'm going to gradually up the number of days I can leave it so hopefully I can get to two weeks or so within the next 6 months. Its going to be a long process, but I'm happy with the results so far. pelicano
Just to update you, my scalp didn't improve with the coconut oil (aaargh, it's the bane of my life!!), and shampooing it out either left me with super soft but a bit greasy hair or bone dry frizz, even with the mildest shampoo in the world (very difficult to get the balance right!). So... I'm back on the no shampoo, and using the cream I used to on my scalp. I may have to go for occasional shampoo use, if the cream builds up on my scalp. At the moment I'm pretty much just using water only, and putting a little oil on the dry ends afterwards. A lot of this is just from sheer laziness! It's amazing how easy it is to forget what your hair used to be like. I've had a quick reminder, having used shampoo a few times, and it was absolutely awful. pelicano
I'm currently trying to just use shampoo when I get my hair cut, so every few weeks. I figured I should still get the benefits of no shampoo (hopefully), but without too much of a dirty build up. My hair isn't really greasy or anything, despite my forays into the murky world of shampoo, but it is getting so full of static! It's my own fault for wearing too many synthetic fibres, but I never had a problem before I gave up shampoo/conditioner. Anyone have any tips? How is everyone else getting on? Ain't Nobody Here
Funnily enough, I was thinking about this post today . Can't help with the static (I read somewhere that body lotion on your legs helps with static on trousers - would that work on hair? ) I'm really fed up with my hair. This is the start of my 8th month with no shampoo and must be the 6th without conditioner. My hair's getting no less dry when I "wash" it but bits of it start to look greasy really quickly. It's mainly the long bit at the front which it hangs in separate bits & looks awful so I have to use a clip to hold it back. So I've still got frizz round the back and sides and I've got greasy looking bits at the front. I think it needs a cut so might arrange that next week. Louise
I still use a bit of conditioner on the ends of my hair when I have to wash it alot at work but never on the crown as it really doesn't need it I am over 2 years into this now with absolutely no shampoo at all
Sheilaz
Congratulations, Louise! ANH. I found that only the new, growing through hair benefiited from The Project. Even now, I can feel with my fingertips the difference in the hair at the exact point where the Experiment started 2 years ago (I stopped after 10 months but have never been back to SLES/SLS shampoos). So, the upper few inches (which it grew faster!) are great, after that, same old split & dry stuff. So, gradually cutting it off is the olny way if it's that bad. Conditioner & even the natural scalp oil are only superficial on my old hair, they'll never repair what's been stripped. But, fantastic to have the new part! pelicano
So I've still got frizz round the back and sides and I've got greasy looking bits at the front. Your hair always sounds a lot like mine. I sometime think that the no shampoo thing just emphasises the difference between the hair at the roots and the ends for me! ie flatter roots, and fuzzy ends! Still, I didn't like it when I tried shampoo again (even with the mildest shampoo in the world - I haven't used SLS for years), so I'd better stick with it. I always find having a cut makes a real difference to the frizz, even if I only have about half inch off, so hopefully that will help you. I'm thinking of buying a wooden hairbrush to try to sort out the static. Honestly, I've saved nothing on shampoo and conditioner this year, as I've spent a small fortune on hairbrushes! Ooh I forgot to say - I've found something strange that helps my scalp. I've been doing loads and loads of online research, and tried lots of different remedies, and the one that is helping (only one week in) is vitamin C powder diluted in water and spritzed all over my scalp! All very odd, but the best part is that I can still stay no shampoo with it, as I don't have to use any greasy creams etc.
Ain't Nobody Here
flatter roots, and fuzzy ends! That's it exactly . I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow so hopefully that'll make me feel better even if it doesn't look any better . Can I ask, does the Vitamin C affect your hair or just your scalp (and what was the problem with your scalp? Sorry, I can't remember!).
